Bug Fixing and Prototyping!

With the release of v0.9.0 I have been hard at work tracking down and crushing bugs, but I've also found some time to play around with new features and effects that may make their way into Lab Rats 2 in the future.

The first thing I worked on was tweaking the clothing designer and adding a transparency selection option - there are now three different levels of transparency levels you can pick from. I would like to link these different levels to some sort of in game event or purchase, but that may have to wait for a future update.

Second, I've been experimenting with some basic character sprite animation/transforms. A few months ago I had been experimenting with an extension to Ren'py that allowed for complex shaders that I might have been able to use to create simple animations. Unfortunately the code that made that possible was poorly supported by the rest of Ren'py and it came at a significant performance cost, so I have had to abandon that as a possible approach. Instead I will be working with the more simple transformations available inside of Ren'py, I hope to have some demo footage of that posted in a few days to show you what it will look like.

Lastly, I've been doing some work inside of Daz. I've set a couple of new clothing items and a new character pose rendering. If you're a fan of garter belts this update will have some content for you! I've also been exploring some new techniques to eliminate clothing clipping, especially with nipples through shirts. I may rerender some pieces of clothing with this technique to fix the worst cases of clipping. Finally, I did some preliminary experimenting with rendering makeup, something I hope to be able to add in a few versions.

In all I think it's been a very productive prototyping week! I've still got plenty of bugs to hunt down, so that will be keeping me busy until the public release on the 26th!

Comments

I haven't, but I'll check it out and see if it might be useful!

Also, I really must thank you for how professional you are. I'm really delighted to check in here, and VERY frequently find that you've aggressively destroyed bugs and even beyond that, you provide many detailed posts telling all of us about how stuff is coming along and what you're doing. Your level of communication is absolutely refreshing, Sir. Thank you!

Hey Vren!! You say you've been working with Daz lately. Have you heard of or tried Altern8 yet? If you are using G8 for your characters you might love this product once you get the hang of it! It helps make skin beautiful and might even help reduce render times. I'm not affiliated with the maker, and not trying to make money here. I just think its a phenomenal product hehe. I think you'd like it.

Good news on all fronts (especially garter belts ;) )

Yeah, woudl Ren'py support a way to just enter a hex code for a color? I probably wouldn't use it most of the time, but it could be *really* convenient when wanted.

One thing you should add to the clothing interface is RGB values, to more easily give the same color to different pieces of clothing that aren't added sequentially.
