Just some thoughts

Hey everyone, welcome to this little post. (Picture is from the upcoming sniper video)

Recently, I've expected too much of myself by wanting to have "How it FEELS to play Sniper" out by December 11th (because on the 12th I'm going on a short trip). While this would have been possible if I worked roughly 8-10 hours a day nonstop since November 15th, the pressure of this expectation actually caused me to get almost nothing done for about a week. Funny how that works, right?

It definitely didn't help that I was sick in bed for a few days at some point, but that happens to everyone.

Anyway, enough excuses: after this Sniper video, I am going to get my own place (thanks to you <3) where I will be able to form consistent working habits and live the dream of making Youtube my life. For now, I am focusing on revisiting important habits like exercising daily and even meditating.

Surprisingly (or maybe not to some of you), working daily has become so much easier now that I've prioritized my well-being and am focusing on making long-term habits. One strategy that I'm finally trying is to set a "cut-off" time where I don't pressure myself to work. I've found that having no expectations for myself from 7-11PM highly boosts my energy levels for the following day. Sometimes I end up working during this time anyway! But only if I feel like it.

One last thought: during the week where I was frozen by the pressure, I had a miniature existential crisis. Now, this might sound funny to some of you, but that week I realized that I would never get to live the life of an eSports pro. You might be surprised to learn that I was honestly considering going into eSports instead of returning to Youtube two years ago. In fact, there was a point where I was one of the top 10 most accurate McCrees in the world (no joke I probably have the screenshot of that lying around). This was thanks to the same passion for gaming that allows me to make the "How it FEELS" series. I just love multiplayer games and the depth/emotions that can be found in them.

Anyway, the reason I decided to come back to Youtube was the realization that, if I looked back from 10 years in the future, I would be more proud of myself for doing Youtube than eSports. I still stand by that decision, but only now has the finality of it dawned on me! Sometimes I wish I had a second lifetime to become a TF2 pro, or a Dota 2 pro, or even an Overwatch pro! When I see how passionate and excited the pros are when they're competing in their favorite games, or how knowledgeable and snarky they act about every little balance change, I get a little jealous and see myself in their shoes.

I invite you to breathe in the fact that we only have one lifetime and that we should make the most of it. Think about what "future you" would be proud of, but also make sure to respect yourself and build yourself up up slowly. Still, keep in mind that Stephen Hillenburg (R.I.P.) only started working on Spongebob /15 years/ after he graduated college. There's always time to do something great

P.S. The next video might be the QnA, so leave questions here if you didn't get a chance before

Sandman Eyes, Beyond Madness

Take as much time as you need. With the horror that is Sfm you have my support.

Quality over quantity, and your own mental and physical health before that! You are doing great work!

Thank you for genuinely caring about the quality! It means more than you know to me

LazyPurple

Thank you so much for the unyielding support and honest advice. I'm really struggling with the yin/yang of putting enough pressure on myself without suffering for it. I know it'll be clear to me soon though, and I'll be sure to incorporate consistent breaks like you said

LazyPurple

Take your time and take care of yourself! I'd much rather wait 6 months for a great How it FEELS where you got plenty of time to work and think on it with a clear and relaxed head, than a rushed one in December. :) We love you, Lazy! <3

There are so many questions I'd like to ask, but the one(s) I want answered would be: what are your comedic inspirations, and how have they influenced your style as a content creator? I'm sorry you were sick and feeling stressed! Hope you feel better :)

Glad to hear you are feeling better/getting things under control. You just take your time, getting sick does not respect anyones schedule.

Fred

I would suggest committing to a schedule like, instead of 8 hours straight (if that's what you do) Make yourself some dedicated breaktimes, like take an hour off in total staggered throughout the day. I work 10 hours a day 5 days a week as a Welder, we have a 15m break after 3:30 hours, 30 minute lunch break after another 2:30 hours, and another 10-15m break after an additional 2 hours. I know this is in no way a similar field of work and our stress is a lot more physical than mental and emotional (not considering the extended sitting time and what that can do to your joints.) Anyhow, as someone that's sunk a chunk of cash into your Patreon, I hope you find it relieving when I say I wouldn't be mad in the least if you took a Vacation from YT as I've seen you clearly work your ass off. I wouldn't be upset one bit so have at 'er on the 12th, not that you need my permission, but I thought it might help. :) In the end, keep doing what's best for you, as long as you don't sit around for months on end doing literally nothing (unless you're hospitalized.) I'll keep supporting as long as I can afford it. Thanks for all your transparency as a creator and honest work, my man. :)

Haha I'm sure I'll have a lot of editing questions to answer. It all starts with trusting in the magic of tutorials...

Meditation is the real deal, man - It's insanely helpful for stress and such. Congrats on the new place! Hope it all works out. Oh yeah, and for the Q&A: How the FUCK are you so good at editing? Any recommended place to start for more complicated things like SFM, After Effects, etc?

Oh I've seen it too! I'm somewhat grateful not to have started out during the "Wild West" phase of Youtube. There are so many lessons to learn from Youtubers who have come and gone.

LazyPurple

I've seen this cycle in all kinds of creators. It's really good you realized taking care of yourself is going to help you both feel better and do better work as soon as you did, sometimes people just kind of spiral like that for years! :( Hold yourself to these positive changes dude, we all want to see you succeed!

Thank you for the suggestion Ardate! It was important for me to hear at the time.

LazyPurple

I'm so glad you took the 'time off' idea to heart. A real actual break is such a different energy than unwanted pause due to stress/anxiety or even burn out! I know it helped me lots when I needed to work on personal projects during one of my unemployment period, helpfully getting back on track after a no-guilt vacation. Do try and stick to this new addition to your calendar, I know your tendency to overwork yourself!

Ardate

I'll try not to! But these videos have to get done somehow haha

LazyPurple

I will! And thanks for the question, definitely will consider including that in the video

LazyPurple

Oh wow, I still have to get used to this. Until I became a patron I always had the mindset of "YouTubers make videos if or when they want to." But having a lot of people who like your video makes you want to make more. (Hell, I sometimes make videos for my friends and myself and them pushing me to make videos is enough, imaging having thousands of people doing that.) Still, good to hear from you, Lazy! Keep up the good work and don't overwork yourself y'hear?

Palpameme

Take care of yourself Lazy! as for a question. where did you get the inspiration for the "How it FEELS" series?
