I dont know where this misinformation comes from but Enies Lobby is no prison and no prisoners are kept there. I know while I'm writing this you are in the middle of the Impel Down arc but stll lol.

When he uses the third sword and puts on the bandana, it's like him saying that he's taking things very seriously. That was an "all or nothing" type of fight, where things need to be settled in an a few brief moments (some time swords fights are like that).
