Chapter 1185: Gan Ning's Shamelessness

"This big of a red envelope, haha, I'll make sure to let Zhaoji go as well," Li You said without hesitation, planning to have Cai Yan join in. For the sake of the late Cai Yong, Li You had made all kinds of promises to Cai Yan, but the issue was that Cai Yan didn’t seem to have any intention of getting married.

While Chen Xi could be unreliable at times, when it came to important matters, he was someone who would stick to his word. Plus, he wasn’t the type to deceive the younger generation.

"Is it really that magical? Then you won’t mind if my daughter joins too, right?" Jia Xu said with a scheming smile. He had been wanting to marry off his daughter but was troubled about whom to choose. Though Jia Xu primarily acted out of self-interest, he was still a father at heart.

"I'm interested as well," Fa Zheng added while stroking his chin. "I don't have a daughter, but I'll send my cousin. Zichuan, remember to prepare a few more."

"...," Chen Xi felt a headache coming on and grew angry. "You guys are unbelievable. Don’t you know that this type of red envelope is something I can only prepare once in a lifetime, and you all want in? There’s only one!"

Chen Xi’s words indirectly included Liu Bei as well, but Liu Bei just chuckled. He had already decided to ask Lady Gan to take Liu Shan (A’dou) tomorrow, just for fun.

"How could we miss out on such a great opportunity?" Lu Su laughed. "Though I don’t have a sister or a daughter, I’ll send my niece to join in."

"Are you guys going to die if you don’t take advantage of everything?" Chen Xi retorted in frustration.

"How can you say that? Since Xianhe and Gongyou aren’t here, we can’t leave them out. An Guo, go inform their nieces to join tomorrow," Liu Bei said with a hearty laugh. He wasn’t going to listen to Chen Xi’s protests. It was the New Year after all, and every child from the same generation should be treated equally.

"Understood!" Wu Anguo replied with a salute.

"In that case, my cousin should probably go as well," Qu Qi mused aloud while gazing at the sky. Large families always had plenty of sisters and daughters. Chen Zichuan’s offer was too tempting to ignore. If they didn’t send their sisters and daughters to claim this benefit, they’d be fools.

The military officers were a bit more restrained, but they also weren’t shy about confirming that their daughters, sisters, sons, and nieces would all show up tomorrow to take advantage of Chen Xi’s generosity.

As for those like Zhao Yun and Zhang Fei, who were more solitary, they were somewhat more considerate and didn’t trouble Chen Xi. However, at the end of it all, Gan Ning shamelessly declared that he had over a dozen sisters and cousins.

Gan Ning’s audacity broke all limits. After his declaration, everyone else was left speechless. Then, with a calm expression, Gan Ning casually mentioned that he also had uncles, aunts, and more cousins. If allowed, he would like to bring them all along as well.

"...," Chen Xi was at a loss for words. While he knew Gan Ning could be ridiculous at times, this was beyond shameless.

"Oh, right, I just remembered that Miss Wu is my distant aunt’s daughter," Gan Ning said, fully pushing the boundaries, leaving everyone speechless once more.

Regarding Wu Yuan, no matter the reason, Chen Xi was definitely going to invite her tomorrow, and Liu Bei would never neglect her either. Now, with Gan Ning staking a claim like this…

"So ruthless..." Wei Yan was stunned, feeling like his jaw couldn’t close. Gan Ning’s performance was dazzling, befitting the commander of the navy.

"Gan Xingba really is something," Li You thought to himself, stroking his beard in admiration. "He appears shameless, but in reality, he's livening up the atmosphere. Chen Xi clearly said there was only one big prize, so the rest of us are just here to accompany the 'crown prince.' Though we don’t know who that prince will be, it’s clear that Zichuan will arrange something behind the scenes."

"Since we’re just here to keep the 'prince' company, any other rewards we get will just be for fun. Chen Xi won’t mind giving out more minor prizes, and it’ll give the sisters and daughters a chance to experience something new," Jia Xu glanced at Gan Ning and immediately understood his motives.

"You..." Chen Xi was exasperated by Gan Ning’s shamelessness, but he didn’t say anything more, ultimately allowing it.

"Sigh, Xingba, you rascal," Liu Bei said, laughing and scolding at the same time. Among all his military commanders, Gan Ning was by far the most mischievous, though he was also highly capable.

"I guess I’m just unlucky," Chen Xi grumbled, while Gan Ning walked away with a smug, victorious look. "To avoid getting shortchanged, I’m bringing my entire family tomorrow!"

Liu Bei’s inner court was in uproar. This wasn’t just about Chen Xi keeping the reward within his own family—there was a real chance that the prize would end up going to one of his relatives. The idea that someone from Chen’s family would win was too much to bear.

"This is rigged!" Liu Ye boldly shouted, stirring up even more noise. After all, it was the New Year, and some fun and mischief were always welcome.

"If you think it’s rigged, don’t play!" Chen Xi teased, his words nearly causing Liu Ye to choke.

"At the very least, my family gets the last draw," Chen Xi said with a cough, trying to defuse the tension.

"That sounds fair. I believe Zichuan wouldn’t cheat," Mi Zhu, ever the gentleman, added, showing his confidence in Chen Xi’s integrity.

After a round of banter, everyone eventually left Liu Bei’s residence. Most of them assumed Gan Ning had just been joking, but when they saw him the next day, they were stunned. He had indeed brought every single sister and cousin from his family, demonstrating a total lack of shame.

Chen Xi walked alongside Mi Zhu, for once not hanging out with Jia Xu, Li You, and Guo Jia. The four of them were already feeling awkward after the events of the day, especially since none of them had taken the effort seriously, yet their behavior had attracted too much attention.

"Zizhong, mind if I hitch a ride with you?" Chen Xi asked as he saw Mi Zhu about to board his carriage. Quickly walking over, he patted Mi Zhu on the shoulder.

"Why not?" Mi Zhu smiled, welcoming him onboard.

"So, what’s going on with your sister?" Chen Xi asked as soon as the carriage started moving.

"Zichuan, is this a personal inquiry or are you asking on behalf of someone else?" Mi Zhu asked with a knowing smile.

"Let’s just say I’m asking on behalf of someone else," Chen Xi replied after a moment of thought, indicating that he had the authority to make decisions.

"Then, everything is fine," Mi Zhu nodded in approval.

"Don’t try to dodge the question. Are you saying it's fine because you think so, or...?" Chen Xi pressed for clarity, wanting to avoid any misunderstandings.

"It’s fine in all respects," Mi Zhu laughed heartily. "There might be a few minor issues, but they don’t overshadow the positives. This applies to both sides."

"Good, that’s what I needed to hear. Saves me the trouble of acting only for you to deny it later," Chen Xi said with a relaxed smile, feeling reassured. With Mi Zhu’s approval, he was ready to move forward with confidence.

"I’ll stand by my word. How could I deny it?" Mi Zhu chuckled. "In fact, Zhen’er believes it’s not suitable because she actually cares. That’s why it doesn’t feel right to her. So, you’ll have to use your skills to convince her."

"Don’t worry, don’t worry. You can trust me. Though my methods might be a bit aggressive, don’t blame me later," Chen Xi grinned, looking like a sly fox who had just successfully pulled off a clever trick.
