is it possible to capture a 3d point cloud with kinect ?

Edmond Yang

Hello! The model you are using probably have a few too many vertexes. Try with something that has less than 100 000 vertexes. (You mileage might vary) Otherwise, if you can change that/really want to use your model, I have a workaround that is fine but not great. Contact me in a dm

stale_sallad

greatttttt but, I'm trying to change a 3D model in a project file, but changing the 3D model breaks the entire project. why?

Jeon Eun Seo

I'm also having this issue, if anyone could help :)

Erin Thomson

Your tutorials are just too good https://objkt.com/tokens/KT1Feeb2hAvAnR4vqU2XC5HKXdQNYUZLbHsM/267

michael

Can i do this with a pointcloud from kinect?

Emilio Cortés

Great!

Jay Moon

I found that if the model is less than ~100-150k polygons polyreduce can be used to clean it up a lot. Higher counts than that tend to result in just too much going on imo

Jacob Slinker

Hi Thanks for the tutorial. Would it be possibile to use this technique with pointcloud from Kinect azure?

Nicola Carpeggiani

I have no idea how to upload blender 3D content, what exact format do I need to download it in and how do I add it? Could you help me? Happy new year!

Ok , i will try to export my geometries with the same number of points first to see what I get ! Thanks for the help and keep the fantastic work !

FRANCOIS DEJARDIN - Polykrom

Great that you found a solution. The most important is the points of the geometry. But yeah, you can bypass the convert sop if it creates too much of a mess. I tried it with some pointclouds and it looks really messy sometimes. And sometimes that mess is satisfying.

stale_sallad

In order for that to happen smoothly, the two geos would need to have the same number of points, otherwise weird things will happen. Because you need to reset the fb-loop to update the resolution of the loop. There might be smoother ways to do that, but idk a way without resetting the loop right now.

stale_sallad

Just wondering the best way to switch from a geometry to another one automatically or when a deconstruction is finished ? Acruallly I use switch using a LFO but weird effects and not synchro . Any help would be great !

FRANCOIS DEJARDIN - Polykrom

Think I found the reason: the polygons must be square and very even to make it work

Anastasia

I might have a similar issue. When I use a different model, after converting it to a bezier curve, there are way too many lines formed, it becomes a mess and it's impossible to see the original sculpture in it. I didn't find a way to control it :( tried to reduce the amount of polygons but it didn't help

Anastasia

Hmm seems to be a common problem. It worked pretty easily for me. But I could just be getting lucky with my models. Can you explain what happens when you try?

stale_sallad

Brilliant and beautiful to see, but in my experience, nearly impossible to change and try with some other shape.

fabio volpi

Shoot me a dm, and we can trouble shoot there

stale_sallad

Also, I am trying to import an 3d object in your project without a success

GVerse

I’ll keep that in mind

stale_sallad

Just the first thing that comes up when you google text to speech. But pitch shifted ;)

stale_sallad

Great Video ! I was wondering if is possible the diconstruction of the points from the 3D Model, be audio reactive

GVerse

such a sexy voice btw <3

tm

working now thanks for fast response!

tm

Ffs I tried to schedule a public upload, and it must have privated it in the process. Give me 5 min.. I fix edit: it should be working now

stale_sallad

yes... the video is private now ...

FRANCOIS DEJARDIN - Polykrom

so strange -- i am a member but cant see the video?

tm

What a fantastic tutorial to finish 2023 ! Thanks a lot and the best wishes for this new year eve !

FRANCOIS DEJARDIN - Polykrom

You are a genius! Thanks friend

Pat Cantin

Thanks!
