[TS3] Smooth Patch 2.0 - Early Version

Overview

Hi! Here's a beta release of the 2.0 version of Smooth Patch.

This is a script mod, once 2.0 officially releases this script mod will also be included.

So you can technically use this without smooth patch, but of course for best results I recommend you have it installed as well.

New features

Installation

Like a normal script mod, just drop the package into your Documents/Sims 3/Mods/Packages folder.

Tuning and Troubleshooting

If you open the package with S3PE, you will see a "LazyDuchess.SmoothPatch.Tuning" XML resource.

You can edit it to disable the CAS music fix if it makes music behave erratically in CAS for you, or to disable its compatibility with MasterController (This will make it so that if you enter MC CAS the patch won't take effect, but it will take effect in normal vanilla CAS) in case the MC support is too buggy for you.

If you do disable MC compatibility I recommend you take out the MasterController Integration package from your Mods, so that you can access normal CAS.

Comments

Does this still all work with the new update they just dropped lol?

Ryuzaki Negative

Hi there, this mod is just awesome, thank you so much for all your hard work! I can finally have fun in cas :) I just wanted to flag a small odd issue I have when I have this patch in my mods folder : for some reason, male teen nightwear footwear becomes unchangeable (it either gets stuck on the slippers or on the bare feet). I haven’t encountered the issue for any of the other ages or for females.

Yup

Lazy Duchess

Hi! First of all sorry for the late response. And yeah TS3 does expose a ton of things to scripting, though it is sandboxed, you're restricted to the "simulation" thread. Scripting is done in C# as TS3 runs on Mono, the compiled executable code is more like an engine than a game, I guess, the bulk of the gameplay and its systems are scripted, which is what makes it so moddable. There is an "exploit" to hook into the game, which involves just making a variable that's marked as "Tunable" to get the game to access it as an entry point. I'm grossly simplifying it, but in a nutshell this mod hooks into the CAS UI code to make it only load clothing that is visible on the scroll panel, as by default it loads everything at once spread out between game ticks which makes it really clog the game. If you really want me to go in depth about it you could shoot me a private message or contact me on Discord!

Lazy Duchess

Hey, I just joined the patreon because of all the great stuff you are doing here! I'm a programmer, but have never modded the Sims and am curious about the process, so I'll ask a couple of technical questions if you don't mind: What places of the game did you touch to get the improvements? Did you change how asset loading works, did you add a cache or is it a UI thing? Are there explicit places for scripts to hook into (are you even using scripting or something else?), or is the game itsself largely using scripting, so you can just change anything you want? How low-level can one go using mods? Can you create new threads and do real powerful stuff, or are they basically sandboxed in the game and only have limited power? I'm simply baffled the engine exposes so much for mods that you can go about fixing such seeminly base functionality of the game. I'm looking forward to try your stuff out when I find the time!

Simon van Bernem

Should I still start the game through your fixed ts3launcher shortcut?

Ryuzaki Negative

thanks you ♥♥♥

Shushilda

Thanks you so much!I love this game so much and with your mods you save it.

InariRB

Hey, I know it's too early but, would you marry me? You're perfect!!! I could never imagine that sims 3 CAS will be so good!! So smooth!! YOU OWN MY LIFE !!! Thank you!!! This mod = perfection! I love it

BunnyElf

Thanks I just subscribed I love your mods!! And all your work with the sims 2 and 3!

Viri Cocarv

Hi there! Thank you for reporting, I haven't been able to reproduce this issue at all on my end unfortunately, but as it seems to work for other people, could you try it on a new clean save?

Lazy Duchess

You were right about this: seems that everything works fine in a different save, could have been an odd save then! Just confirming that this issue is considered solved on my end.

NadineNB

(Ok, it seems it's not necessarily linked to the use of the Stylist, I can lose the choice for hair in CAS, randomly)

Around the Sims

First of all, THANK YOU for your mods for Sims 3! It's a MC issue, you are probably aware of it and working on it, but as it's not clothing related, I thought I'd mention it. I don't always have access to hair choice when I edit a Sim in CAS during the game. It seems I lose it if I once open the Stylist (where I don't have hair access neither), then I don't have it anymore in CAS neither.

Around the Sims

Hi! I wish it was that easy :p I'm not sure if there's much of anything that can be done about savegame loading.

Lazy Duchess

Hi! My pleasure, thank you so much for the feedback :) I'll definitely try and sort out most MC issues with the coming updates!

Lazy Duchess

Thank you very much for your hard work! I was really excited to try it, so I'm going to do it right now! 😍💜 By the way this is just a suggestion, don't take it as a request, but could you maybe create a mod like this but to speed up the loading screens, mainly of the saves? Some take too long to load and sometimes the game crashes. I know the latter doesn't fix it, but at least for me thanks to your mod my game crashed a little less and sped up quite a bit so that would be great 🥰

VMSims

First of all thank you SO much for your hard work and sharing it with us. I just wanted to report that, besides the things other members have shared, I noticed that MC's multiple accessories function also isn't working anymore ever since I added your mod to the game. I use the 2.0 Update 1 version. The music on the other hand is, at least till now, running infinitely which is good! :) All in all the good things are outweigh the bad things so I am already very happy. The rest will be sorted out - I'm pretty sure about it.

Kevin

Hi! Ty for reporting! I'll look into it, and yeah, if it's not too much of an issue you could remove MC integration rather than the whole of MC so that you can still use the normal CAS without losing other MC features.

Lazy Duchess

Hi! Yeah I'm aware of the UI issue with having to click the back arrow (dunno about the ram stuff though? interesting). I consider it pretty low priority atm, but I'll see if anything can be done about it. Should be fairly easy.

Lazy Duchess

To clarify, this is already *with* your most recent version, the one version which "fixes some issues with MasterController CAS freaking out sometimes". Just so you know. :)

Amy Murphy

Okay I've narrowed it down to Nraas MC. I know you've mentioned that there isn't MC compatibility at least for now, so that makes sense.

Amy Murphy

I put this mod in and jumped straight into CAS, and I have a fairly major quirk to report. Not sure if this is specific to me, or because of some conflict. Apologies if this have been flagged, I'll try to explain this as simply as I can. It basically seems like CAS messes up whenever I try to load up a Sim using the 'Pre-made Sim' library. When I load up the pre-made Sim I want it's fine at first, but trying to press the 'Accept' button or moving in between different Sims on the panel does something very weird to the Sim. They kind of half-revert back to the Sim that the game randomly generated when you added an extra Sim to the panel of created Sims at the bottoms of the screen - they keep the clothes and hair of one Sim, but the facial features, body shape, sex and age of the other Sim. The result is a mess. I've never seen anything quite like it before now. The only way I've managed to work around it in-game is to load up the pre-made Sim I want, then 'Create a Twin' rather than 'Add a Sim or Pet', then delete the first Sim leaving only the twin. If that makes sense? Because then there wasn't a randomly generated Sim for them to revert back to, because they started out as the twin of the first Sim. Obviously this isn't ideal, especially if you're trying to make a a big household. Hopefully you can make sense of what I just said, meanwhile I'll try the mod in isolation and see if it persists.

Amy Murphy

Np, thanks to you for his amazing mod <3

NadineNB

I can confirm that the music did stop in CAS the first original version before the new update. :)

Anime_Boom

Thank you for the feedback! Hmm, that's super strange, I'll keep working on it. By the way, were you able to test if the CAS music stopped in the first version, before the new update?

Lazy Duchess

Have no idea if it's related to this mod or not, but seemingly my RAM use drops roughly 500-600MB after I leave CAS/Stylist. This definitely isn't a problem, but an interesting little thing I've found. Haven't discovered any issues with this either, actually it's helped. Also, no idea if this is related to MasterController too, but in order to go to another outfit category in Stylist, I either have to enter CASt, or hit the Back arrow on the sidebar. It's not a big deal, but wasn't sure if it's caused by a conflict or just a bug.

Kathop

Hi! Hmm, that's really strange, none of it should conflict. I'll keep working on it on my end and see if I can come up with something. Thank you for testing!

Lazy Duchess

Alright here is what I did: 1st test: Brand new save in Bigger Builder Island: 1) Stylist command was back yay, 2) CAS log was not working. 2nd test: I removed the Update 1 file, Brand new BBI save, and CAS log was working, so I figured maybe a mod conflict was going on. 3rd test: I removed all my mods except for NRaas mods and Update 1, started brand new save in Bigger Builder Island, and CAS log was working fine! So, do you think AwesomeMod could be getting in the way? I had it for the first 2 tests above. Not sure what to remove to help identify which mod precisely is conflicting with Update 1. Core mods like AwesomeMod? Script mods too, I guess?

NadineNB

Sounds good, going to load a fresh save!

NadineNB

Okay so good news the music stopping in CAS has been fixed! However now there is a new issue of the music continuously switching to a new track over and over ahah. :D Example in game - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_GTzHLSU44 Sorry for dark footage nvidia driver update reset my settings and it was put into full screen mode.

Anime_Boom

Hi! Hmm that is weird, try it on another Sim? Or on a new save? Stylist definitely shows up for me, and the cas logging works just fine for me too.

Lazy Duchess

Update 1 report: - When clicking on "Sim > NRaas > MC" the command "Stylist" is no longer visible under "Status". Removing Update 1 makes it re-appear. - CAS Log feature does not work when right-clicking items in CAS Hope it helps. This is minor for me as I'm already loving the huge speed boost we are getting with your mod, it's a treat to have an early release! <3

NadineNB

Hi! Yeah currently it's not fully compatible with all of MC CAS, but the upcoming first update will implement the logging among other fixes - I'm uploading it soonish.

Lazy Duchess

I'm trying to follow this tutorial to identify problematic clothing in my game, and so far the current version of the mod prevents the notification from NRaas CAS to show up: https://simhelaene.tumblr.com/post/32097140823/i-thought-id-post-a-little-guide-to-removing

NadineNB

Never thought we'd have a mod that fixes crazy CAS loading time! You're the best LD <3

NadineNB

Hi! For sure, yeah. I'm working on improving MC compatibility.

Lazy Duchess

Will it be possible to make this compatible with NRaas Master Controller's compact CAS? Or at least replicate the feature?

Charles Hayward

Hi! Thank you :) Yeah I'm hoping to fix it for real, probably in the first update soon, along with some other audio issues in CAS regarding game speed (Like muted voices if you go into CAS paused or sped up if you go while fast forwarding)

Lazy Duchess

This is awesome! Can't wait to try it out! :D I'm interested if the CAS music stopping is fixed with the theoretical fix you have included, normally I would go into options and play music from the music tab and it would bring back the music but then it leads to another bug of sims becoming washed out after interacting with the in game menu. Thanks again for everything! :D

Anime_Boom

amazing! Thank you so much!
