Friday Update: Ep.11 Cut Content

This week, I thought it might be fun sharing some edits I made that didn't make it into the show, since I never really show these. (Well the last image doesn't count, but whatever.)

#1: Trowa in Wing's cockpit
For our Capers who've been with us since 2021, you'll already know this one. But for those new to the club, the entire fight over paint swatches originally happened in Ep.10, when Trowa was sitting in the middle of Antarctica in Heero's Gundam. I had all the visuals made and even finished the video with Egamar's original recordings as an Ep.10 preview, only to scrap it from the episode entirely and repurpose it for Ep.11.

#2: Une in the interrogation room
In the script, Une and Wily had two more lines after an Ozzie interrupts. In my head when I wrote it, I wanted a shot of Une in front, Wily in his chair in the background, so they could make their quick jabs without cutting to each person individually. Problem is... there's no easy head-on shot of Wily in the background to use. I tried to instead pull a shot of Une from later in the show and flip/fill the ceiling above her to match, with one of the guards behind her. It fit just fine, but I still didn't like having to cut to Wily for such a short line, and ended up cutting the bit entirely. In the end, I thought a harsh cut from "we have the last Doctor's exact coordinates" to them at his exact coordinates was funnier anyway.

#3: Quatre getting into it
When Quatre and Duo briefly argue about going to space, I didn't like that I really only had two standing shots for Quatre. So I decided to make another using a shot of Quatre from a later episode and made a background that fit this location. It all came out well and I put it in, with lip-flaps and movement and everything (he pulls his fist up dramatically when saying "they CAN'T threaten them again!") only to realize... the shading is completely wrong. In every shot of both boys, the dramatic shading is over their faces with the sun at their backs, because they're in the shade. It was jarring to have this one shot of his face lit from the other side, with the source of light clearly behind him. So I cut it. Lot of work for nothing lol.

#4: Une in the TV
This was actually in the episode, but I wanted to explain why she's in a TV. See, much like the Trowa/Quatre argument about color swatches, this next-time-on bit was meant to be in ep.10. At that point, we hadn't shown Une in space yet, so her being with Treize made sense. When we moved the bit to Ep.11 (because Treize asking for "navy blue" would make no sense in Ep.10 now) I realized, "...wait. Une shouldn't be on Earth." So I decided to just have an Intern hold a TV with her on it so we wouldn't have to rewrite or re-record. That's the entire reason.
