The Patreon Podcast - Episode 18 - God of Diets

Late, but not forgotten.

- Dan

Comments

For windows you can manually download and install updates if you look at the code of each update

Dan, I know it doesn't seem like it at the outset, and I know it seems like a FC knockoff, but the story in HZD is actually really, really stellar. They made the mistake of overly back-loading it, but by the time you're done you find there's a deep story in there that really, really hits you hard. If you want a story to remember, play HZD.

Felice Enellen

I loved the old unboxings and would really like to see you unbox the PS2. PS. can you give a couple days notice before the charity stream (maybe even a week) it would allow people to adjust their schedules and watch more of the stream

I would like to see a PS2 unboxing

You're a babe

Matthew Penman

That school story. xD

Sophie Wyllie

Dan: "I would love to play a Rockstar game set at the dawn of the motor car, go around on horses n shit." Dan, have you heard of Red Dead Redemption?

Ashvin Scott

Dan you should totally check out phsyconauts in the rombus of ruin it's a vr phsyconauts game and from what I can tell it's not completely shit

Netflix recently got loads of older/classic BBC comedy, stuff like Monty Python, The Two Ronnies, Porridge, A bit of Fry and Laurie, Harry Enfield, AND two series of Victoria Wood 'As seen on TV'. I have been gone on such a massive comedy binge thanks to it.

CJ

DJ! DJ! DJ!

WC the Comedian

Dan I'd love it if you released a healthy eating cookbook, would you ever consider doing this?

Nathan Malaney

hey Dan so now that you played God of War do you think it will be a definite GOTY contender for you. Also what are your thoughts on the upcoming Spider-man game!

Dan, thoughts on quitting my marketing job to go and study film production at media city?............ Oh wait, too late..... I already did

Who is your favorite non-Picard TNG recurring character?

Jed Cole

Christ, Thank you for guiding me to Victoria Wood. She is pure gold! is there any other comedians that you would recommend like Victoria, Dara O'Brien, Ed Byrne and the like?

Daniel! I have to say, the God of War video! Dan... dan... dan.... ITS FUCKING BRILLIANT! Ironically my next favourite video is your ni no kuni video! Kinda sad it wasn’t actually ni no kuni 2 :-P but really, it was you at your best (in my humble opinion). Thank you, it was great!

LukeSeawalker

You talked about doing another TV series podcast. May I suggest Firefly?

Stefan Eisenreich

What about Lego Stunt Rally?

Stefan Eisenreich

You said in a previous podcast that you generate all your passwords. What password manager/generator do you use?

Hey Dan , with all the talk about your retro series, lego and your book, did you every play the early Lego games? ( Lego island, Lego creator, Lego Racers)

Andrew Donovan

Hey Dan, I remembered you played the demo for Final Fantasy XV a few years ago and was wondering whether you got around to playing the full game. If so what did you think of it?

I'm actually re-doing 30Rock myself whilst exercising and yes the pilot is awful but it picks up pretty quickly (oh and cheers for the heads up about the google play offer) Question, how many episodes will you give something before you give up on it. I usually give 20minute shows 4-5 and hour long 2-3. Community took until the 8th before it clicked (and has done on every rewatch), Game of Thrones also took 5-6 and both I stuck with due to people repeatedly recommending them. But can't get over Parks and Rec having a shit 1st season then getting good.. I feel odd not starting at the beginning but really couldn't get into it. Oh and how does Brooklyn Nine Nine get away with having the worse leading men (Andy Samberg and Joe Lo Truglio) but one of the best ensemble casts, so strong in fact that it makes me continue to watch.

Daniel Marshall

Hey Dan, I am currently trying to write a film and I have no clue where to start. I would like to know what your writing process is

You can always count on us British people to chat about our recipe for roast potatoes! Everyone has their own version and its fascinating to hear them all. (P.s. I use a very similar one to you just with a few extras)

Hi dan I think this is something you would really enjoy don’t want to say what it is as it would spoil it a bit <a href="https://youtu.be/6Dtc8AuwR28" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://youtu.be/6Dtc8AuwR28</a>

Centuries ago you made a video called 'Nerd³ Wants To Play... Planetary Annihilation' and then never did a video on it. I was just curious what you thought of the game since you never made a video on it. PS. PA:Titans is only a dollar on humble right now

Zion Aitken

Did you get round to watching Hitchhikers guide on radio 4? Also I am going back to Mexico this summer and am going to the place with the wobbly bridge and the dolphins.

Cameron White

Hey Dan! Was thinking you might like a game called This Grand Life, it’s a proper, serious and pretty deep adult life simulator with a BUNCH of options and customizability, kinda like a macro The Sims. Would be a great game to play on stream!

Really good information on weight loss. Cheers

Powerjugs

Hey dan, I was watching ur finding a boyfriend video and realized how detailed the thumbnail and ur logo is but I was wondering why do u put effort into the thumbnail and ur logo in the Saturday videos but not the recommends, where u just stick them on the bottom?

Will there be a 100 Greatest Lego Sets?

Stefan Eisenreich

Just a quick recommendation for A Quiet Place. If you like Cloverfield I think you'll like it. Great sound design and an interesting story that focuses on the family and characters instead of the monsters.

I think you forget there's young adults and teenagers not too unlike you Dan, I certainly don't football, vape or emoji!

D&D Lemur

Can you give us a little summary of a favorite script you'll never release?

Elenne Madrone

Dan did you know there is a community of people who create fan made Pokemon ROMs, most are poorly written and basic sprites from the GBA version, but there a few good ones that you can download for free. Not sure how Nintendo would think about it though as it isn't technically there game but is there brand. Interesting see how it would work.

Someone should make a VR Lego game so you can stand inside legosets and feel like a minifigure Just a thought

Mathieu Marlaire

Game pitch: Bully, but set in Hogwarts. Thoughts?

.the closest you can come to the perfect pokemon game you described is Pixelmon, It was a mod that added pokemon to minecraft and you need to find the correct biomes/environments for different pokemon. It has stopped due to being sued to shit but there is still a playable version.

Kloovt

Are you secretly Remy from Ratatouille?

Ashvin Scott

Listen to Rats by Ghost BC

Can I get un-banned from your twitch chat? I can't even remember why I was banned.

I'm 18 and I can't talk to teenagers so you are not alone!!

ViralDragonRider

Dan, hearing your opinions on rappers is interesting I was wondering what you think of the current generation rappers i.e Kendrick Lamar, chance, and migos etc.

I have been trying to lose weight and i found that moving from a town to the countryside and getting donkeys and another dog really help me to lose weight and keep on top of it!! Haha

ViralDragonRider

Weird question I know but what is your take on the How to Train Your Dragon series... Like I absolutely love the sound track (it really helps me concentrate), and I love how little talking there is. It's all beautiful music and facial expressions. I was just wondering...

ViralDragonRider

Dan, would you consider having a guest on the Patreon Podcast? I have a good recording setup and think it would be cool to ask you some questions and get in your head, and I think your other patrons would like to listen.

Would you consider doing a podcast like the doctor who and sherlock one where you go though every episode for Stargate?

Daniel Shenton

Are you a fan of British Scetch Comedy eg: Fry and Laurie, Harry and Paul, Armstrong and Miller, Mitchell and Webb.

Douglas Hodgson

Will you play Verdun? It's a WW1 online first person shooter with no lootcrates or microtransactions. You play for the team. It has some really interesting mechanics for simulating front lines, its only problem is the servers are a little empty.

Douglas Hodgson

Have you watched Greg Davies Netflix special?

Aaron Place

I like to say actor/actress instead of male actor/female actress because it is shorter and relevant. I get using gender neutral words like spokesperson because it doesn't matter in that context, but it does matter if you are hiring a man or a woman for a certain part. It's one of the things that allows English to get across a lot of information concisely.

Douglas Hodgson

A couple of quick comments on your cooking: Firstly, I would suggest not peeling your potatoes when you make roasties (or any type of potato tbh). The skin goes nice n crispy in the oven. Secondly, are you sure you're cooking your brown rice enough..? It shouldn't be thaaat different from white rice in terms of texture, certainly shouldn't be tough, I now much prefer it.

Mike Jones

If you like pokemon, you might like an old PS1 game called Jade Cocoon....is good!

I "cheated" with my weight loss as I was up around 95 probably nearly 100kg, but I am now down to around 75kg simply because I can no longer eat gluten or lactose (turns out being no longer able to eat most foods is a great way to lose weight) it also helped that I am now working as an apprentice baker.

Auraharako

Hi Daniel, long-time supporter, first time commenter. You mentioned writing a few Simpsons scripts in your time and I was wondering if you had any thoughts on the state of the show now and maybe on the Apu controversy? x

Dan, it's likely I'll be on the treadmill by the time I listen to the podcast. Can you give me some motivation?

At what point can you call yourself a writer

eventually

He's not wrong. Dinner Ladies is hilarious. And fajitas are delicious. Ooh, weird retro day, I like the sound of that! I saw the Ocean's 8 trailer on Sunday, before it got to the end I was thinking "This looks just like an 'Ocean's' film" which tells you how well they captured the aesthetics of the previous ones!

Patrick Jackson

If it's not a private investigator then is should be!

Patrick Jackson

Hey Dan, I’m a student currently (trying) to write a cook book for students encouraging them to actually cook. Can I use your fajita lasagne recipe?

Dan what is my job going off only my name

Don't ask why but I had the sudden urge to rewatch your simpsons hit and run completes a few days ago and now I'm curious if you would ever consider doing a completes of the simpsons game? I think it could be rather fun to watch!

Joshua Aarons

It's interesting you bring up your thoughts on pokemon because I'm almost the opposite. I've always been a sucker for the stories in them. Granted I know a lot of them aren't good but I believe black&amp;white/2 to have amazing stories and characters in them (possibly some of the best Nintendo has ever told), yet I totally see your point and would actually quite like what your suggesting for pokemon switch. When I first encountered one of the dragons in breath of the wild I kinda had the same reaction you had, and just imaging that but with a legendary pokemon sounds really fun!

Joshua Aarons

Have you heard of The Horne section pod cast made by Alex Horne and his band. They have had some good guests like Tim Key and Richard Osman. Also in earlier podcast you said you have never raid a Pratchett book and you wanted your book filled with annotations, which I found funny because that is how he writes his books and I always thought both your comedy style was very similar. You might want to pick up one of his books the next time you are in a second hand store.

its kinda hard to stay motivated as a dyslexic writer but whenever i hear you talk and about writing the passion in your voice it makes want to keep trying to get better so thank you. p.s i would love to hear one of your special podcast about the orville what you like and hate

ben

Hello Dan I've been watching your videos since 13 ways to die Arkham city. And since then you've been my number one YouTuber and are in my top ten list of favourite creators (under Edgar wright, grant Morrison, and Stephen king... Sorry 😂) my question is what books would you recommend to someone. Also have you considered bringing your book out as digital, and audiobook, aswell as a physical copy?

Rhys connell

On the bullying note, I feel, at least in the schools I have been to and am in, that most of the "jocks" are also "nerds". Most of the athletic boys in my grade all play video games. So the gap between the two groups that caused bullying is no longer there now, which I suppose is a good thing.

Jellex

Will you ever get a guest for your Patreon Podcast ?

Dan, if you could have a nerdy discussion akin to your old Moffat video with anyone from history, who would you pick?

Well Read Nomad

So how much money you make? 😂 5p? Guess it killed your pc more than it made. Crypto mining gurrrrrr!

Valthexus

Best Netflix show? mine is designated survivor

Playing Red at the moment, it's not too talky like you describe with recent games yet the story is more interesting and more fun. Same with Gold/Silver. Doing less of the stupid complex stuff and doing more of simplicity in the deep background would be far better. The last good Pokemon Game was Diamond. Newer games are too easy as well.

J Singh

Weird retro games? Everyone loves that stuff. Hidden gems and crappy old stuff, that's always been a popular video game thing to do. It'll be fine. Just look at the AVGN

J Singh

When my dad was in college, or highschool, he was bullied by someone. He then swung at the other guys face, missed and the other guy started crying.

Jellex

I'm heading to cancun for a week in a few days, anything especially worth seeing??

deadduck456

The greatest tv show of all time. imo. Maybe that's over selling? It's a well made, well written, solid show.

J Singh

Excellent characters, lots of good emotional stuff. Grunkle Stan alone is worth watching it for. It also has JK Simmons. It's not a normal cartoon/kids show, it's one of those one in a million type shows.

J Singh

Hi Dan, loving the podcasts, listen to them on my way to and from work. Wanted to ask if you'd ever heard of Foxdog studios? They're and IT consultancy company who started doing Edinburgh Fringe comedy shows. They were easily the best thing I saw at the Fringe in 2015 and 2016 (I didn't go last year) and their shows consist of a lot of audience interaction via mobile phones (in the latest one, the audience members can control a robot chef made of a sausage cannon, electromagnetic frying pan and a remotely controlled gas camp stove). They're a bit weird (if you hadn't worked that out already) but I feel like you might like them. Thanks for all the brilliant content :)

Have you ever watched the Avatar: The Last Airbender Cartoon? I thought the characters were all pretty well developed, and all of them go through their own arcs. Lots of people say it has one of the best redemption arcs of any media of all time, but I'm a little skeptical of that. Mainly because I don't ingest a lot of media. Still pretty amazing, though. With Rebecca's computer issue, I had a similar issue a while ago but updating my BIOS fixed it. Might be worth trying that out.

Sandwich247

Hey Dan, I know you are not very interested in cartoons but I wonder if you possibly have tried Gravity Falls? In my personal opinion it is the most well written cartoon ever made, especially considering mysteries. Every single episode servers a purpose rather than being filler. It got so big that Disney is now releasing a DVD set with all the episodes, which they have not done for any show for over a decade.

Skylos

I had the exact issue with Windows 10 refusing to install. Ended up Reformatting the hard drive from mbr to gpt using diskpart, then letting the Windows installation disk create its own drives. My PC is now fairly okay but it will sometimes just restart without warning or even making a noise or turning off the fans. After a little investigation turns out I had a coin miner on my PC that killed off my hard drive which explains why it ground to a halt before collapsing into blue screens. Maybe try switching the disk types using something like this <a href="https://www.easeus.com/partition-master/convert-gpt-disk-to-mbr-disk.html" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.easeus.com/partition-master/convert-gpt-disk-to-mbr-disk.html</a> .

Addison Reilly

Would you ever do patreon only live streams?

Dan, I understand wanting to organize another live stream, but please consider anyone but the Red Cross. Charity Navigator shows they are a poor charity, and they've misused millions of dollars in Haiti for example. Doctors Without Borders is a far better charity on the same scale, and they also do good work in Syria.

Jason K

Hey Dan, how do you pick what game to play for the Saturday series? Do you pick a game then use that to have a video idea or have an idea and find a game to express it through. Hope that makes sense.

Edward Hagreen

Fucking brilliant that Yu Gi Og story. The only time I ever stood up to a bully, we became friends. Go figure. I wasn't bullied much though, as even though I'm weak as piss, I am a large dude.

Emil Aagaard Bovbjerg

Hey Dan, have you considered maybe revising the Nerdcubed fat series? Or maybe add something like that as a segment for your podcast? Your original fat series motivated me a while ago to lose weight and I think it could be fun for a lot of people to see something like that again.

Skylos

DAN! When I cook roast potatoes, I cut them up quite small, in a roasting dish with some spray oil on the bottom. Herb them heavily, then more spray oil (enough to coat it visibly) and cook at about 180 for 1 hour 40 minutes (how ever long the chicken I cook with them takes). They are the best potatoes.

Will ''The Button King'' Harding

Oh my god, the Yu Gi Oh story, had me smiling while walking down the street. And the quip, the fucking quip!! Perfect!

I'm Really sad to hear you don't like Parks and Rec, i personally love the show

Colin Webster

Hey Dan sorry I feel like I'm taking advantage I've already asked a question about your pepper fajitas and voiced an idea about the Pokemon game (I should really wait till the end to ask questions and chose just 1 to ask but I can't help it). Basically you talked about my ssd caddy issue and I managed to find an old hard drive and that worked so it's not the caddy. Does that mean the ssd is just busted or is there anything I can do? Windows just full on says it doesn't recognise the device cos it malfunctioned

William Newing

I was about to write the exact same thing but you managed to put it into words before me , so thanks a lot now i have to do nothing.

Morgan

Dan, in the podcast with Donald Glover as the comedian at the beginning, you said you would talk about him a bit more later, but never did. As a massive Donald Glover/Gambino fan, I would love to hear you talk about him and why he's so amazing in more detail

Felix James Knight

Hey dan, what are your thoughts on saints row the third the third? And as a bonus question when do you think a saints row game gets TOO crazy? Personally I think saints row two did the balance the best.

Scott

Yakuza 6 comes out tomorrow I think. You liked 0, so maybe checking out 6 may be worth it? Red Dead Redemption on the XBONE is great, playing it right now while listening to your podcast.

Hey Dan, have you played the fallout who mod in VR yet? It's great fun actually flying the Tardis in VR!

I'd recommend a similar calorie tracking app called MyFitnessPal. It also scans barcodes and tracks macros etc.

One day, Windows 10 updated on me and corrupted my fucking user file. I had to spend an entire afternoon fixing that and getting everything how I wanted it. Every time it updates now I cross my fingers and hope everything is fine.

Hey Dan, will you do a stream on E3 this year? And also please to the PS2 unboxing

The weird retro game Sunday series thing sounds great, even if I'll just be into it for a few episodes and then abandon it. Good to experiment ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hey Dan. With your Win 10 problem I’ve encountered that issue many a time at my job (IT) the best solution we found is download the media creation tool and it’ll install a new version of 1709 and that should sort out the update issue. Can take an hour or so.

John Oke

You said in the past that you don't like or particularly care for game of thrones. I would think that you like that kind of show. The incredibly rich world building, the complex characters (not a single character is pure evil nor pure good for example), the uncoventional story telling. All things you love in other things, so howe come you don't like Game of Thrones?

Mathieu Marlaire

Hahaha my PS4 is being used to hold up my PS2 as well. Been playing Time Splitters.

Hi Dan, what would you think about a GTA where you make a character at the start and then the NPC respond based on your gender and such. Also the idea of a breath of the wild style Pokemon game would be amazing and all I have ever wanted from a Pokemon games.

Lewis Corby

This one right here! <a href="http://www.calculator.net/weight-watchers-points-calculator.html" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">http://www.calculator.net/weight-watchers-points-calculator.html</a>

Nerd³

As you keep telling us you are getting on in years, how about ‘Nerd cubed’s old’ instead of nerd cubed retro

Stuart O'Hara

A question and a recommendation: Ever thought of writing for radio, or stuff like Big Finish (who does a lot of Doctor Who audios)? Since you featured Josie Long a while back, you might enjoy singer/songwriter Grace Petrie. She does excellent Tory-bashing and heartbreak songs, and she’s just wonderful.

Agrajag

Adding to the Pokemon idea how about like each Pokemon has almost like an inbuilt aggression level as you go round. So like some will just run away from people but others will want to fight you and go to you, bit like dragon quest. But as in later games the first Pokemon in your game walks with you so if you have a big fuck off charizard most will run away and you won't get those annoying random too easy battles but you could bait big fucks over with a lv5 pidgey but they're more likely to flee mid fight when you bring out the big fuck too. Could also be a good way of stopping the playing going to a city they're not meant to be at yet. Instead of a solid wall just big fuck off Pokemon beyond your level about that will run at you and fuck you up. But if you fight through it and level up and get there you can actually do it. I think that would feel so much better than being like right this city has 4 paths out of it I came from that one, that one I need a bike to get past and that one I need rock smash to get past I'll have to take this one then and go to that city

William Newing

Do you have a link to the app.

Josh Yates-Walker

Have you seen the BAFTA Games award winners, and what do you think? And what do you think of the BAFTA Games awards in General?

Shawn Lindsay

Your tangent about teenagers made me think about Saints Row 2 (because of the song of the same name on the in game radio). I know what I'm playing when I get home

Oh and also, I dislike call of dut but i buy it for the black ops series’ zombies mode. Ever played it?

Gabriel Moody

That moment when you'r a teenager but still agrees with everything you said about teenagers

joe cooke

Dan! Is it confirmed that you'll be at CoxCon again this year? Will there be books!?

Hey Dan, you’re the reason I started game development, would you play my game? <a href="https://john-clarks-fun-house.itch.io/killboard" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://john-clarks-fun-house.itch.io/killboard</a>

I love the diet advice. Sadly can’t really afford the Weight Watchers app, I’ve just cut out most of my meat and bread, combined with walking as often as I can and my job being on my feet all day I’ve managed to lose 3kg. Tracking my food with pen and paper has worked though. So thanks for your little bits of food advice.

Matthew

Wanted to listen to this to get my mind off food and then THE FIRST HALF WAS ALL FOOD 😭

Gabriel Moody

Oh and for the record food talk is never boring. Food is the best, just the best

William Newing

Hey Dan, in your Pepitas (what I've decided to call those genius pepper fajitas) do you stuff the pepper then eat it straight away with raw pepper or put the stuffed pepper in the oven for a bit after to soften it?

William Newing

From an earlier question about judging our Robot Wars style event: I'm sorry to hear that your April is busy, however, we also have one running late next October, and we'd really like if you could come! Also, you woulnd't just be judging, because the judges also provide the commentary. I've edited down the last event to 4, 15 minute episode, and they are on Youtube! Here is the first in the series: <a href="https://youtu.be/V8WUsyUk0DM" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://youtu.be/V8WUsyUk0DM</a>

Titusz Ban

Hey Dan, I know you have talked alot about stand up comedy but I would like to hear if there is any one I should watch that does inprov and your general thoughts on inprov vs stand up?

Franklin Goodman

I was 16 and a half stone at start of the year. Down to 15 stone 7 at the minute from counting calories. Have you got a link to the calculator that you don't have to sign up for? Or do you think it's just worth signing up and saving myself from not having to manually check all the calories?

Tim Thompson

Do you still play PUBG? Thoughts on the new maps and/or the Xbox Version? Xbox is a lot better than when it launched.
