You should really try "fake" lego. It's gotten a lot better in recent years while the quality of lego basically went down the toilet (Colors not being uniform just like in these, random colors below the surface, scratches in tiles, ridiculously overpriced sets). There are some REALLY nice sets from companies like Cobi, or BlueBrixx. CaDA just released an F1-racer that blows lego's version completely out of the water while being 30€ cheaper.
