My White Whales | Nerd³ Toys - Patreon Edition

One of my all-time favourite things to learn about people is thier White Whales. The artifacts that elude them, seemingly near and out of reach simultaneously. Is it a lost Doctor Who episode? A toy with a defect that only had a single run in the 70s? A copy of an unreleased game that you watched the trailer for over and over again? (Stargate SG-1: The Alliance, my beloved.)

Today (as I write this, a couple of week ago for you fine folk), the E3 2003 demo of Halo 2 arrived on Steam, completely remade using original files. That's the energy I love about White Whales. Some folk rebuilt a slightly different demo for a game they've probably played hundreds of times? Why? Because when Master Chief drew those two SMGs and an entire E3 crowd exploded into whoops and cheers a core memory was formed. Because, if you let it, excitement never dies.

In summary, there was no way in hell I wasn't going to tear open that Defiant.

Keep on hunting!

My white whales aren't toys, but rather records: I'm ever-searching for first edition pressings of my favourite albums, notably, All Things Must Pass by George Harrison, and Australian pressings of the first AC/DC albums. Annoyingly, these are all ancient and hard to find in the UK without spending many many pounds. :)

I loved Rescue Heroes as a kid (early 2000s). They were action figures generally of first responders. All of there names were kinda punny like the firefight was Billy Blazes. A childhood friend and I would play with them for hours. There were vehicles you could get and even movies and a show I think. My friend had this aircraft carrier thing that was massive and I wanted it so bad. There were trading cards of the figures too! I filled pages of binder card sleeves with them. These were the toys I would get excited to go to the toy isle at the supermarket to look at even when I know l knew I couldn't get one. The weird thing is now no one really seems to know what they were even people around my age. Rescue Heroes seemed so big a cool when I was a kid. My mom found the box of the ones I had as a kid recently and I have some to my nephew for his birthday this year. They were a hit!
