Regency Romance Update: Love and Courtship

Update 8/15/23: Addresses a handful of bugs, including the disallow parasols cheat, stopping fans and handkerchiefs from appearing while holding other objects, married sims scandals, making it easier for sims to begin a courtship, allowing sims to resubscribe to Lady Whistledown after disabling it, and others.

Hello all!  It's here!  The love and courtship update for the Regency Romance mod!  There's a lot to unpack here, but here is a quick list of what's new.

Content Updates

Bugfixes + Quality of Life Fixes

• Married or engaged Sims will no longer cause scandals when interacting with their spouse or intended.
• Sims can now invite up to 50 guests to a ball.
• The social standing buffs that would sometimes appear in old versions of the mod have been removed, with plans to implement a new social standing system in the future.
• If you Shift-Click on any Sim, you can choose to “Make Member of the Ton” so they will be part of Society and affected by Scandal.
• Once a scandal has been leaked, Sims will no longer be able to re-leak the scandal unless they discover something new.
• Workplace rivals will no longer cause errors.
• Widows will not be assigned the “Spinster” trait.
• Fixed an image error for the Spinsterly Advice buffs.
• Fixed women's military uniforms being messed up.
• Sims can now receive an income from their estates even if they are not on lot.
• For added compatibility with Llazyneiph’s Royalty Mod, sims will now be referred to by their assigned Royal Titles in Lady Whistledown if you have this mod installed.

Etiquette Skill Refresh

• Children can now learn Etiquette.  Your Sims can practice their curtsy or bow, write letters, and eventually perform a Ladylike or Gentlemanly Introduction just like their adult counterparts.
• Adults can now Teach Etiquette to children and teens who are working on their Etiquette Skill.  (This works like the Help With Homework interaction - Sims must already be working on their Etiquette for the interaction to appear.)
• Children may gain Manners when Practicing Calligraphy or Practicing Curtsy/Bow.

Parasols

• Sims can now choose to Open a Parasol from the Regency Pie menu.  There are 20 swatches available and it functions like an umbrella (but does not override the umbrella).
• Female Sims will autonomously open their parasols when out in the sun. You can Enable or Disable parasol autonomy by Shift-Clicking on any Sim and locating the cheat under the Regency Pie menu.
• This feature requires Seasons.  If you do not own Seasons, you can safely delete this file from the folder.

New Social Interactions

• Sims can now “Swoon” or “Drop Handkerchief” to flirt with potential partners.  Sims who use fans may also autonomously dab their faces with a handkerchief.

New Events

• Chaperoned Dates are available from the event scheduling menu. This functions almost like a normal date, except that you will be accompanied by a chaperone to make sure there is no untoward behavior.  The event goals are similarly edited to be more era appropriate.
• A Coming Out Ball Can be thrown for Sims upon their entrance to society.  This doesn’t replace the visit to the Queen, but can be a different way to celebrate a coming of age!

Courtship Mechanic

• Sims can now declare their intent to marry.  Sims who are looking for a partner may have potential suitors show up at their door bearing flowers.
• Unplayed gentry Sims young adult and older will automatically be considered as potential suitors. Your Sims can reject a suitor directly, or choose to begin a courtship with them.  Unlike becoming Girlfriend/Boyfriend, Sims may court multiple suitors at once.
• Suitors may autonomously propose once relationship gets high enough.  You will have the option to accept, reject, or ask for time to consider.  Some Sims may entertain proposals from multiple Sims at once!
• Matches are considered using a score that holds sims to Regency era social norms.  Being higher in wealth or class makes you a more attractive match.  You can check your attractiveness on the Lady Whistledown papers.
• Sims can now call off an engagement for a specific reason.
• Sims can ask a parent's permission to marry someone they are courting. It may cause a scandal if you marry without parental approval!

Lady Whistledown Update

• Lady Whistledown will now comment on user-hosted Tea Parties, Coming Out Balls, and Archery Events.
• When bored, Lady Whistledown will sometimes make up gossip about your Sims with no real consequences to their reputation, just to keep things interesting!
• If you want to completely disable Lady Whistledown for a specific household, Shift-Click on your Sim and select Unsubscribe from Lady Whistledown under Regency Cheats.  (You can also still disable it globally in the config file.).
