Share your recommendations for horror!

Instead of a poll this week, I thought it would be fun for us to all share what we've been watching/reaching/listening to in terms of horror and creepy content recently. DEFINITELY not just a way for me to get all your recommendations since after catching up with Severance my life has no meaning :)

I'll start:

Show: I've started watching FROM recently. Love it. Very binge-able, I love how it's kind of a Walking Dead vibe, but nothing like TWD. A little campy but super fun. I'm only in the first season still but it's a great way to have something to watch while waiting for new Yellowjackets eps to drop.

Podcast: y'all know what I listen to on the daily, Monsters Among Us. I also love Radio Rental, but there's only a couple seasons a year.

Movie: I watched Martha Marcy May Marlene recently. Super fucked up. Very upsetting. But I have heard it's a really good depiction of someone trying to leave a cult.

Just finished watching the miniseries Lisey's Story, which is on apple+ so if you're caught up on Severance you might want to check it out. It's based on a Stephen King book about a woman who gets wrapped up in a mystery left behind after the death of her husband, and how she solves it with the help of her sisters. It's good but really really strange. Also it stars Julianne Moore and she's GREAT. It's so refreshing to have horror content that stars middle aged women (and despite being Stephen King I think the women are written really well; it's an adaptation that doesn't stick too close to the book in a good way).

Not horror but I am re-watching Bones at the moment as I love all the gory stuff in it, it can be quite graphic! I'm a huge horror film fan but haven't seen any super good ones recently. The last decent-ish one I watched was Smile 2 at the cinema. I'm currently listening to the entire back catalogue of a podcast called Korean True Crime (on YT Music). I've heard some of the cases before but not all of them. It can get pretty graphic. I know true crime isn't really horror, but to me it's scarier than most horror as it's actually real and had happened 😬

i’ve been reading andrew joseph white’s work, totally recommend! he’s a ya author but his work is so beautifully done, and he’s an autistic trans author so his queer and neurodivergent characters feel very real!! listening wise i’m on a big creepcast binge atm. they’re my sleep podcast, i love the energy and i always like creepypasta podcasts. watching i haven’t been doing much but i plan to start the new black mirror season!

I really need to watch the original Speak No Evil now! I quite enjoyed the remake and always want to watch like, ten more iterations of the same movie after I enjoy one. Two cakes after all, lol 🍰🍰

In TV I have to mention ghosts. I know its not horror but a sitcom about a couple who inherets a mansion and after the woman have an accident she Can see ghosts, and there are a bunch of ghosts in the mansion. I love every version and so far there is a British, American and German version. A movie I can recommend is the original version of speak no evil. Its creepy. I dont really listen to english horror podcasts and I dont read a lot of horror either. Thanks for making this post its nice to see what other listen to and Watch and get some inspiration.

Love Yellow jackets, Gonna be binging that last few episodes of that. Podcast wise, I’m Mr Ballen all the way and Mr Ballen’s medical mysteries is good, I can’t always listen to it as certain health things weird me the fuck out and surgery is one of my biggest fears. I’m halfway through The Conference on Netflix, seems very unusual and has a weird atmosphere, it’s dubbed but still watchable. I think one the last horror’s I watched was Ready Or Not which pretty good and Talk To Me was really good, both on Netflix.

Starpunk

I’m reading ‘The Between by Tananarive Due’ right now, it’s really good. Another book I’ve read this year that I recommend is ‘Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant’. It’s super interesting and I love deep sea horror. For TV shows, Yellowjackets is really fun

i haven't really consumed any new movies in a Minute, so i'm gonna be taking notes here lol i've been revisiting my childhood love of historical (as in Old) hauntings with into the fog with peter laws, the tape library, ghost casebook, and don't scare clair on youtube. its more "history with a side of spooky stories" than something my brain will try to do evidence analysis with. my podcast interests trend in a similar vein right now, the haunted objects podcast is funny and informative (and available in video format too! do recommend) and dark history with bailey sarian. occasionally when i need something a little more light and fluffy i go with two girls one ghost podcast. still spooky, still not gonna dive too deep like i do with "real paranormal footage" in figuring it all out. books, with all my current stressors i've been revisiting an old friend of a book by katharine eliska kimbriel entitled "Night Calls" its a YA coming of age in alt historical time line with magic, freaky deaky demonbabies, vampires and werewolves that came out when i was a teen. there's parts that still give me some "i know i'm safe but i've read the lore" goosebumps. otherwise i've been sticking primarily with cozy paranormal mystery since with *gestures at global news in general* my brain is very much like "you want me to do what for how many cookies?" when it comes to reading anything weighty.

Recently read "Someone You Can Build A Nest In" by John Wiswell and it has easily become a new fav of mine. It's technically horror (body horror/gore mainly) but also has humor & sapphic romance, and I seriously loved it.

I binged watched the bondman which was really good. Also non horror even tho this is for horrot is the Pitt but could be, kinda gory I just had to put that in there. Movies I just finished was "the Rule of Jenny Pen" is was messed up. I left it feeling mixed of emotions.

More of a thriller, but I just watched "Triangle," last night. It fucked me up for a bit. 😆
