I often feel like kids are much more perceptive than adults and can read people pretty well as they don’t have confirmation bias and go off more of how adults treat them or connect with him. I am guessing he is definitely not a favorite uncle and called out by the especially precocious kids. I am guessing he gets outsmarted by then and hates them for it, and they are not impressed by his bs.

Had to take a break from this case as it affected me deeply and I’m 1,000s of miles away in the U.K. What I have never been able to understand is how well educated privileged people who grew up in a faith that reinforces the family unit and community values, then go on to kill four of their family members just for money and sex. It’s such an extreme reaction that they jumped into feet first without exploring any other options to be together. How do two people who apparently have never killed before then in their 40s/50s become killers on this scale. I cannot wrap my head around Alex’s mentality as he had nothing to gain from murdering on their behalf. Lori and Chad had a motive but what was Alex’s motive? I would love to hear your views on this

This story is just amazing to me and have been listening to the trial in the evenings and your podcast and YouTube as much as I can. I think we have a sex addict that is hiding in this ridiculous religion. I think Chad has been like this all his life and agree that he "settled" in his mind for Tammy. He is totally insecure and trying to get approval through this religious BS as well as having this life with Lori, his idea of a goddess. He seems to think "this could never happen to me" like she would never be someone in his life and so it has to take absolute priority in his life. I have been in 2 marriages with sex addicts that were narcissists and watching them be completely obsessed with sex that they couldn't be successful in life. They literally could not hold a job or do well because their sex thoughts were so distracting. Of course finding me to marry who is very similar to Tammy sans the LDS beliefs, I held down the job or made the majority of the money. The fantasy life is is where they live.

I proudly showed her the curriculum I had handpicked, but her only comment was “when are you doing Aboriginal studies?” I kid you not!!! As for the reading of the loin fire texts in court. I was watching Chad closely, and he seemed to be proud of his literary skills!! Thankyou Lauren and Dr John for your coverage of this case. I’m fascinated by the fact that so many people were involved in these tragedies and did nothing. Unbelievable!!

I went back this week and re-listened to the Murdaugh episodes. There are similar themes of family secrets and family shame and obstruction of justice and living above the law. But the key theme of manipulation and control is so concerning.

2024-05-12 15:31:16 +0000 UTCI haven’t taught in Arizona, Texas, or Idaho. In my state previous schools send IEPs to the new school. There has sometimes been trouble when the previous school doesn’t forward the records and we are “flying blind.” If the parent doesn’t mention anything, there is no way for the new school to know. There also are rules about forwarding student info without parent permission (I don’t know the school to school specific because I’m not involved in that). It is very possible that a parent could say they are moving/ home schooling and then drop off the map. It would be hard for a concern teacher/ school to follow up (I think). Call child protective services? Does anyone know more? I’m only peripheral—as a teacher.

When our nineteen year old daughter Caroline died very suddenly and unexpectedly, we (my husband and I and our other children) cried all the time, but we also laughed at every funny memory. And we laughed at things we didn’t expect to as well. So I think our laughing at the texts tonight helps us deal with the horrors of this crime. Not a psychologist here but speaking from my own experience.

We don’t explain the normalcy of just good old LUST. Too me the Dumbell couple are perfect examples. They couldn’t just have an affair and eff it out.
