On Friday, new charges were filed against Jacob Johnson and I was able to get a copy of the affidavit. We are going to continue following this case very closely on HTC and will be bringing you the latest updates in the case, as they come.

What a tragic & unfathomable crime. I concur with Vicki that once again the US court system let down a domestic abuse victim, his ex, in favor of the abuser. Sadly, despite Michelle's efforts, Summer fell for the guy & then hid their ongoing entanglement knowing her sister disapproved. I hope Dr. John can talk about the courts & abuse & divorce - & also if there are any treatment modalities that have any success with reforming abusers & stopping the controlling & harming behaviors. It seems like by the time people - almost always men - become physically violent their psychology is deeply entrenched. I hope there is hope to reduce the level of abuse in society! That said, there appears yet again to be a strong Mormon angle. The ex-wife said she met Jacob at a church dance. It sounded like she was (still is?) an active church member. Him, probably not so much given his substance abuse issues - then again his father works for the church & forgiveness of priesthood holders with no real therapy or intervention besides some public shaming sounds common. So Lauren & the HTC team, did the ex-wife disclose the abuse to her bishop? What was the outcome? To what extent did church leaders enable his ongoing abuse by failing to report to police? What is their role, if any, in failure to stop Jacob? Is this yet another example of why all clergy, lay or employed, and anyone in a leadership role in religious settings, should be a mandatory reporter? IMO civil penalties & consequences should be the 1st step & integral part of any religious repentence & forgiveness process, not the other way around. The amount of abuse & crime in religious congregations is scary. One would hope it would be so much less than in the general population, but not at all.

Kat's info that Summer's adopter mother was a founder if NuSkin is an interesting tidbit. Wealth? Multiple marriages? Some instability & dysfunction in the family system in addition to international adoption & Summer's medical & intellectual challenges? Did I hear it right that Michelle was guardian because their mother was deceased? I hope you can shed more light here - sensitively, of course. Michelle seemed very well adjusted & healthy so maybe there is no there there.

2025-01-21 15:52:25 +0000 UTCThank you for following this case. I work for the same company as Summer (at a different location) and her murder has definitely shaken SO many people. I didn't know Summer personally, but it 100% affected the whole company that one of our own could be harmed like this. Senselessly brutal. Getting to know Summer has been so special for me, and this is such a truly tragic loss of such a pure soul.

It is terrifying and just unacceptable how the judges in Utah did not protect the children. The ex-wife tried to warn everyone she could and no one listened. 2025-01-14 16:38:25 +0000 UTCThis sad story has everything going. Her adopted Mom one of the founders of Nu Skin. Summer adopted from Russia. Many many siblings from her Mom's multiple marriages. Summer was a sweet kind person. She had a chaotic upbringing and few life skills. She didn't drive and was dependant on others. I am so sad for the family of Summer. I am sad for the young children of Jacob. I am angry at the court system who labelled Jacob's 1st wife as a bitter ex making up stories of mental abuse of herself and issues of physical safety during visitation of the kids with Jacob. So many red flags.
