No dodging bullets this time. Clover's design was in my mind for 10-years. In the past, I had an idea of a magical Egyptian-African princess in a fantasy story. She would explore a tropical world that took heavy inspiration from Dinosaur Planet, with reptile monsters to slay and exotic dungeons to explore. But as time rolled on, the Calendar Project became the center of my focus and the Ancient Egypt-Africa story fell by the wayside.
However, I was determined to keep elements of that story. The reptiles and Egyptian aesthetic became a core pillar for Calendar's world design, and the magical Egyptian-African princess was reworked to be a chocolate-colored magician girl. The design for the "coco magician girl" was the easy part, it was her name that took time to figure out. It was when I stumbled upon the definition of the word 'clover' that I knew what to call her.
Clover, the wild flower, became Calendar's leading lady and the series' superstar. She's my favorite character from the Calendar Project, I'm very proud of her character and design.
