Kroashent Commission: The Coppertune Sisters

Another "Character adaptation" commission for :iconsrgntdrew:,  re-imagining their characters as they might appear in Alvez, the world  of Kroashent.  Today's introduction is Blaine (Center), Cole (Right) and  Chessa (Left) Coppertune.

The Coppertune  sisters worked in the service of a Tuatha noblewoman in the court of  Kameled, on the Faerie isle of Logres, unwittingly becoming pawns in  their mistress's power play to improve her own social status and  political power.  Blaine was sent to guard an arkane artefact on the  Golden Citadel of Tír na nÓg, unaware that the item had already been  stolen as part of an elaborate plot to discredit a rival.  Blaine was  arrested and imprisoned, while her mistress rose in the Court.  Blaine's  sister, Cole, the Captain of the Guard, had gone along with the ploy on  the understanding that Blaine would be quietly pardoned and released  once their new position was secured.  Instead, her mistress ordered  Blaine executed. Shocked at the betrayal, Cole and her younger sister  Chessa rescued Blaine and fled to the continent of Letha as exiles.   Blaine lost an arm in the process, but the three escaped with their  lives.  Banished from their home, they travel the earthly realm of  Bedouar among the Bediz, eventually coming into the service of a noble  house of the cloth cities...

------------------

Marie's  Bestiary: As evidenced by their foxlike ears and tails, the Coppertune  Sisters are Poulpiquet, one of the races of the Korrigan Fae.   Poulpiquet, also known as the Korrigan of the Dale, typically reside in  valleys and gaps between hills.  Gifted with an impressive talent for  disguise using their glamour, in their natural forms, Poulpiquet  resemble bediz [humans], but with animalistic features, such as ears,  tails, horns or hooves. The same general size as the Bediz, Poulpiquet  are often mistaken for the magically altered Milliget (and vice versa),  allowing them an easier time of integration into Bediz society than many  of their smaller and more physically diverse cousins. Poulpiquet are  omnivorous, capable of eating most Bediz foods, but they are especially  fond of over-ripe blackberries.  In Breizh, any food left in the fields  after the Kalan-Goañv celebration, also called the 'Poulpiquet's share"  is legally theirs to claim.

Like  all Korrigan, Poulpiquet have their own eccentricities. They are  typically mischievous and delight in playing tricks and pranks on others  with their glamour or stronger magic.  Beyond small pranks, which are  played almost as a matter of course, Poulpiquet prefer to cause their  mischief on those they feel deserve it, especially the arrogant or  self-important, typically with some sort of "lesson" in mind, although  this is often only clear to the poulpiquet themselves. Poulpiquet  morality appears to be centered on a fluid and ill-defined, at least to  this researcher's understanding, notion of "fair play".  The only  consistent line that they do not seem willing to cross under this notion  is intentional killing.  Illusions and transformations are fairly  common aspects of these actions, and I have heard many tales around the  Taverns of Breizh of a rich miser finding that the gold they have stolen  is actually a cauldron full of acorns or a chauvinistic knight finds  themselves turned into a damsel-in-distress in some faerie tower.  This  leads into an interesting observation I have made.  The Poupliquet don't  seem to have a firm grasp on the Bediz concept of gender.  After a  curse is broken or a prank is ended, the pouliquet's will often make  some attempt to return things to normal, which does not apparently  include the biological sex of the recipients.  My studies indicate this  results from a general confusion on the concept, rather than intent.

On  the subject of gifts: Unless you have frequent dealings with the  Korrigan, it is best to decline giving or receiving gifts from the  Poulpiquet.  The entire race is under an ere-hud that compels a gift to  be reciprocated with something in same spirit.  Given the dramatically  different scope of value between the average bediz and the average  Korrigan, even a well-intentioned gift can lead to disastrous  consequences!  DO NOT TAKE EXCHANGES WITH THE POULPIQUET LIGHTLY.

All in all, despite their mischievous nature, the Poulpiquet are typically inquisitive, friendly and approachable.

Val's notes:

Blaine  and her sisters are the latest of Drew's characters to be adapted to  the Kroashent universe, but we decided to try and take it further with a  more heavy rework of their general look and story, while keeping their  overall aesthetic.  In their original versions, the girls are heavily  influenced by Japanese styles and inspirations, so placing them into the  Celtic world of Alvez proved a fun challenge.  To reflect their role as  Tuatha houseguards, they were given some extra armor and their clothing  made a little more uniform.  Blaine's prosthetic arm was reworked to be  closer to similar prostheses shown in Irish mythology, specifically  that of Nuada Airgetlám in the Book of Invasions.
