Milo Rossi’s Weekly Bulletin No. 1

Week of Jan 15th

(Dead people in a lake week)

Howdy Patrons!

Welcome to my first weekly Patreon bulletin! Here I will give you all a behind-the-scenes look at what I have been up to and what is coming down the pipeline for this upcoming week. This is my first week officially back to work and it feels good to be back. After the successful launch of Awful Archaeology Ep. 7, I am feeling fired up and ready to hit this year hard. So let's get into it!

LAST WEEK:

Much of last week was spent getting back into the flow of working again. Most of my team were still finishing holiday travel. Because of this my work consisted mostly of editing Awful Archaeology Ep. 7. This was actually a bit of a blessing in disguise, because I forgot how much I missed editing. All of my early videos on YouTube were scripted, filmed, and edited by myself. A lot of work at the time, but a labor of love that truly allowed me to put an authentic version of myself into each video.

Because of this, I found the last week of editing was actually a delight. I was able to create a product that I was incredibly proud of, and for the first time in over a year feel like I am seeing an authentic version of my classic content being shared with the world. Safe to say there will be plenty more Awful Archaeology to come.

By the end of the week I had finished my editing of the episode and had it ready for premier on Saturday. The premier on Sunday saw a turn out of 9,000 live concurrent viewers. Numbers we haven't seen since the Ancient Apocalypse series. Definitely a warm welcome into the new year.

THIS WEEK:

For starters, this week has been a lot of meetings. Today I had a meeting with my animator as well as my research assistant to discuss plans for the upcoming quarter. We are currently going to focus in on more “classic content,” putting Dark Routes on a little bit of a pause until March. At this time we will begin to disperse it in with other content and release it at a slower pace to allow for more time in post-production.

Along with that, today I finally completed the Patreon Overhaul which was much needed. And here we are. All overhauled. Look at us go.

Beginning tomorrow I am going to continue scripting my next video covering Roopkund Lake. An isolated alpine lake in the Himalayas that is home to the skeletons of some 3-800 individuals. Its a pretty solid archaeological mystery and one that I think has the same pizzazz as all the pseudo shit, but is… you know… actual science. I think it will make a nice piece of evergreen content and be something that will stand alone from the other series to help attract new viewers.

Currently the Roopkund Lake video is about 40% scripted. My goal is to have it finished by this wed/thurs so that I can have it filmed on Friday. Since I am now settled in in a permanent home with a studio I finally have the ability to work on a much better work schedule, and by proxy a post schedule. I'm hoping to have this year establish a better workflow precedent for my own personal process as well as the process of my team. Assuming Roopkund stays on track, it should go from the start of scripting to posting in about 2 weeks. This is a test for myself to see if its possible in order to inform how I schedule my workflow as we proceed into the year.

FLOATING IDEAS:

Currently I have a whole lot of video Ideas floating around in my head. The next one will definitely be Roopkund Lake, but I am working on figuring out what comes after that. I have another 3 eps of Awful Archaeology scripted, so it may very well be one of those. But I have also had some other ideas for videos as well.

I am considering doing another creator spotlight like I did with the Melted Buildings guy about a million years ago. There is this tiktoker who I have covered a few times (Filip Zeba) whos content gives me a migraine. The other day he posted a video that I, at the time of me writing this, have been tagged in 260 times. 260. Its insane. Unfortunately its like three minutes long so I cant cover it in 60 seconds. But it would make a great youtube vid. So who knows maybe that will be something we will be seeing in the next couple months.

Other than that I have been communicating with a fossil hunter who I will likely be doing a shoot with in February. I will be traveling for much of the month and will be passing through some fossil rich areas. Its been a while since ive done some digging and I think it could be a great opportunity to spotlight a professional on the channel.

I'd like to thank all of you for your support and for reading through my first bulletin. Im sure I will develop a recurring style here and find a nice consistent way of doing them, but for now the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Welcome to 2024!

All the best,

Milo

The new episode was awesome, though I feel some shame about laughing so hard at the two princes Spin Doctors gag. Can’t wait for the next one!

Started your newest ep of Awful Archeology over lunch today and decided to pause and pick up on the TV with a drink this evening. Great job, can't wait to finish it!
