July 2021 Production Update

I spent the first half of June making shorts, polls, and preparing for the releases of parts 12 and 13. Then I spent the second half of June on vacation and doing chores that I had neglected during the lead-up to part 12 and 13’s release, so I didn’t get anything else done after that.

My plan to get the algorithm to notice Parts 12 and 13 the way it used to notice them before 2020 seems to have worked because Part 13 got about as many views as part 10 did on their first days. Now, part 10 only achieved about average success for a pre-2020 50 Ways video, but my post-2019 videos have been doing so poorly that achieving what was once typical success now feels pretty satisfying. What makes it even more satisfying is the confidence that I can achieve this success again, since I know exactly what I need to do to pull it off. It does, however, mean that from now on, I REALLY shouldn’t release a 50 ways video all by itself again.

Part 12 had the worst first day of any 50 Ways video after 2019. It only got better because it still made a big enough splash to prop up part 13, which reciprocated some of that attention back to Part 12, allowing it to reach higher success afterword. Clearly, if I want to maintain this level of success, I will need to release my 50 ways videos 2 or more at a time.

And that leads me to what comes next for my channel. The next window of opportunity to maximize advertising revenue will come in late November 2021, and the next one after that will be in June 2022. With that in mind, I’ve come up with 3 possible plans for when I’m going to release the next 50 Ways videos.

Plan 1 (my original plan): I make two 50 Ways videos and release them a week apart from each other at the end of November 2021 just like I did this month. The main flaw with this plan is that it assumes I can make two 50 ways videos in four and a half months even though it took eight months to make my last two videos. So this plan is probably not realistic.

Plan 2: I make one 50 Ways video and release it in late November, then make another 2 videos for June 2022. The problem with this plan is that, as I just said a few paragraphs ago, if I release a 50 Ways video all by itself, the algorithm won’t care about it and won’t show it off to anyone. This plan’s advantage, though, is that my audience won’t have to wait an entire year for another 50 Ways video. That means fewer people will have forgotten about my channel in between releases.

Plan 3: I wait until June 2022 before releasing any new 50 Ways videos. Then, I could release 3 in June or 2 in June and 2 in November 2022, or 1 in June and 3 in November 2022. Skipping November 2021 opens up a lot of possibilities for releasing 50 Ways videos within a week of each other in 2022. The downside to this plan, however, is that it would be an entire year before my channel had any new videos. If I went an entire year with no new videos, the algorithm might just completely forget about me and I might not ever recover.

I don’t know which of these plans I’m going to choose, but no matter which, the next thing I need to do is come up with more 50 Ways clip ideas and start recording and editing them. So that’s what I’m gonna do in July.
