March 2023 Production Update

Last month, I said I was still brainstorming ideas for parts 16 and 17, and so I spent the first half of February brainstorming more ideas. My original intention was to keep brainstorming until I had enough clip ideas to make two 50 Ways videos. Once I had those, I could make a production plan for releasing part 16 and 17 in June. However, the results of my brainstorming this month convinced me that I should probably change my plans.

While brainstorming, I decided to check out some of the most popular Minecraft mods for ideas, since Create Mod had given me quite a few already. Browsing mods on Curseforge brought Modpacks to my attention, so I checked out some of the more popular ones, like RL Craft, Skyfactory, Sevtech, and Better MC. These modpacks gave me a decent amount of good ideas for 50 Ways videos, but after writing them all down, I realized that it would probably make more sense to give each of these mod packs their own 50 Ways video rather than including jokes about them in regular videos. It would be weird to make a 50 Ways video that mostly does regular vanilla Minecraft jokes with an occasional Quark or Create mod joke, but then have about 15 to 20 clips focusing on minute details of RL Craft or Sevtech Ages. If there were just one or two jokes about the general impression given by the modpacks, that would be fine, but after coming up with so many jokes that mock specific mechanics in these packs, it seems more appropriate to give them each their own videos.

Besides, the crazy amount of content in most of these modpacks gives me the impression that I’ve only just barely scratched the surface of what I can do with them. I’ve only just made it past the Stone Age in Sevtech Ages, for example, and I doubt I’ve seen even half the mobs in RL Craft yet. It seems that many of these modpacks could give me enough material for their own standalone videos if I could just spend more time getting to know them, but around February 15th, I realized that June was getting closer and I needed to start getting actual work done. 

Unfortunately, I didn’t have enough ideas for two 50 Ways videos after segregating all the modpack ideas, so now my plan is to produce just one regular 50 Ways video for June and use whatever time I have left to hopefully get a head-start on the next one so that maybe I can have two 50 Ways vids ready for November/December this year.

Once I made that decision, I whipped up a production schedule and started working on the clips. In February, I recorded and edited 15 new clips, which, according to my plan, means that I’m a little less than a week ahead of schedule. I’m hoping to get even further ahead.

So to sum up what happened, I attempted to come up with enough ideas to complete Part 16 and Part 17, but, instead, ended up with enough ideas for Part 16 and a quarter of enough ideas each for Parts 17, 18, 19, and 20. So I’m going to try to finish Part 16 by June so I can get a head start on Part 17 and hopefully 18 for November/December. I started production on the clips for Part 16 and have finished 15 of them, which, when counting leftover finished clips from previous videos that I’ve deemed acceptable or better, brings the total to 34 finished clips for Part 16.
