You have to keep in mind that they only know about Darian's talent. But having a talent for something and being able to use it are two different things. It usually takes many years of study before someone is able to wield magic on a sufficient level to be considered a threat by someone like Sir Roderick. Nobody knows that Darian can actually use magic right now. And the court wizard acts in accordance with the Count's will, so Darian can't go against him in public without challenging the authority of the Count himself.

2023-08-17 23:36:12 +0000 UTCGreat chapter. Now for it's contents..... I doubt the court wizard can pressure him that much. The threat of future retailation still hangs in the air . Let's say Roderick antagonises Darian too much , Darian can't do anything at the moment but he can leave the city overnight. He can come back a few years later after studying at tower and becoming master mage. At that point he would have so much political and personal power that he could kill Roderick in public in front of all nobles and de santis wouldn't be able to do anything.If de santis dares to do anything or targets Darian's family , he and his family could burn too. To me it doesn't make any logical sense to antagonise a person with enough personal power to slaughter an entire city. Either kill Darian or at least attempt to kill him right away the moment his magic talent was discovered or maintain good deal of distance from him and treat him extremely respectfully to make sure there is no future threat of violent retaliation. Anything else doesn't make sense in such a world.
