This weekend we packed the trunk of our cars and left to film again. This time we didn't drive to Nijmegen or other places in the Netherlands, but to Germany: our eastern neighbours. After a 6-hour drive we arrived in the picturesque little village Pohl in the Rhine area.
This time we went out to film for our partner Invicta. We have worked closely together in the past, and we're very pleased with this partnership on both sides.
Our first stop was the reconstructed Limes Fort Pohl. Fort Pohl is a reconstructed Limes (border) Fort, with an earth and stone wall and a watchtower. This was a small fort where dozens of soldiers were stationed, but they were essential for guarding the Limes. Sources tell us that units were sent from similar fortresses to various watchtowers in the area.
In the third last photo you can see Marc in a furnished barrack, where a contubernium (8 soldiers) were housed. We shot beautiful imagery of this and reenacted fun scenes.
It was terribly hot that day, but thanks to the good care of the Fort Pohl volunteers, we were provided with everything we needed to keep hydrated and nourished. When you're in Germany you must of course eat a Bratwurst sandwich.
If you are in the area, do not hesitate to visit Fort Pohl. It is a beautiful fortress, which gives a nice picture of life in a small Roman camp. See the link below.
