Limes watchtower Arzbach Germany

Hi all! We're happy to share an update on day two of our Roman adventure in Germany. Our mission was to film the Arzbach Roman watchtower. In the first picture we're at the bottom of the mountain, you can see the tower is still a few kilometers away from us.

Of course we couldn't get there by car, so we ventured to make the climb up the mountain. During the 423 meter climb to the top, it started raining really hard, and when it stopped raining the temperature had risen fast. Once at the top our shirts were drenched in sweat from the heat, but the view was absolutely worth it.

The tower is open to everyone for visits with a beautiful view over the small village of Arzbach and the surrounding hills and mountains.

It was built around the beginning of the second century. These watchtowers were necessary because of the turbulent times on the Rhine Limes borders in Germany. In the last picture you can see the view of the watchtower through the board. It was awesome that they had made a reconstruction of what the Limes would have looked like in 200 A.D.

I will post a link how and where you can find this watchtower, but be prepared for the steep climb!

Thanks, it was! We did want to go to the castra in Saalburg, but unfortunately we didn't get permission to film there (it was quite last-minute, so maybe another time)
