My vacation to Lisbon Portugal

Last week I was on holiday in the beautiful city of Lisbon in Portugal.
When I go on holiday to places that used to belong to the Roman Empire, I always look for archaeological sites or museums.
With the help of a private tour guide we went to places where underground parts of the Roman city, then called Olissippo, were visible.
An earthquake in 1755 exposed underground Roman settlements, including a Roman theatre, through extensive damage and cracks in the ground.
The theater was built in the early first century AD under the direction of Emperor Augustus. The theater had room for 4,000 people and was built against the sun. This allowed the spectators to enjoy a sunset on the balcony overlooking the Tajo River.

The Romans have settlements all over the conquered parts of Europe. It's so fascinating. Maybe you can keep it in mind when you visit a European town ;)
