Something I made earlier this week of Jiji out of genuine fear of making a friend a liar...oh also to kind of give her more character.
I think this is the sort of thing I need to try and do more of to further appreciate and commit to my own characters/ideas. Put them in situations rather than have them staring back at the viewer. There's nothing wrong with pinups mind you but it's what I tend to do all the time. I don't think I'll get any further coasting along that wave so time to find a new one.
I also used this to force myself to cell shade again. It's something I rarely do anymore out of fear that it's not as nice to look at as something more painterly or soft. It was a good way to focus in on a color range and help structure colored compositions. Someone brought up being confused by the background from a lack of depth. I don't personally find it too confusing but I understand their point. Probably adding a new value to the doorway would have helped with depth. Just didn't find it all too necessary for something I was keeping simple and that the focus is Jiji herself not really the background.
It was a fun piece to work on despite the fear.
