SandStorm - Story : The legend of Bastet & Anubis

Great joy filled the hearts of the people in the land. Everyone in the city is rushing for the town square. The festivities of a glorious occasion are being prepared.

Indeed, within the walls of Ra's great temple, the majority of the deities gathered in celebration of a momentous wedding. The divine marriage of Hathor and Horus.

Amidst the crowd, the new bride danced gracefully with the hawk-headed groom.

The king, Ra, was sitting at his throne sighing heavily. His beloved daughter, Hathor, would be leaving soon. Ra depended on her to be at his side, as a surrogate queen, as he never found that one woman who would please him so.

Concerned, a feline goddess crawled closer to Ra, placing her head in his lap.

Surprised, Ra turned his eyes to see his youngest daughter, Bastet. She blinked a few times, hoping to win her father over with her feline charms. Then she started to dance before her father, laughing joyously. Ra watched his daughter intently, occasionally grinning.

Later in the festivities, the bride, Hathor, approached a lioness-headed goddess, Sehkmet.

Looking at Bastet and Ra, Hathor was worried.

Sehkmet was the first daughter of Ra, she aided him well to represent the feminine figure of royalty until she got married. Then, it was the turn of Hathor to serve that purpose. Now that she is also getting married, Bastet is the only daughter left.

Should Bastet find love, she will have to leave her father, and Ra would be left alone to sulk in his miseries. That only leaves one choice...Ra may force Bastet to marry him.

Hathor promised herself to not let that happen.

Time passed quickly. Bastet was already used to being near her father often. However, the more Hathor saw of them together, the more she worried for her sister.

With this in mind, Hathor set down a narrow path along the Nile river. She knew that some of the deities came for a drink every so often.

That day, along the Nile river, the first deity Hathor noticed was Sobek, the crocodile-headed god. But she found him a bit too on-edge, he could never tolerate Bastet's bubbling personality.

Then she spotted another god, Set. But he was a lecherous, evil, and stupid one. Not what Bastet should find appealing in a husband.

Later, a wolf-headed deity, Upuat, made his way into the river. Upuat was nice but always away. Bastet needs someone who will constantly be at her side.

Finally, Hathor turned her eyes towards the shore, only one god was left. Anubis.

In Hathor's eyes, Anubis was a reasonable deity, gentle and compassionate, he could easily get along with Bastet.

Later, Hathor did everything to provoke a meeting between Anubis and Bastet, and make them fall in love with each other with her arrows of love. Hathor was the goddess of love, after all.

When Ra heard of their growing relation, he decided to confine Bastet to the palace indefinitely. Anubis wanted to contest this unfair decision and protect Bastet, but there was nothing to do against Ra.

Even though Bastet loved her father, she was deeply upset. Despite Ra ordering Anubis to never get close to Bastet again, Anubis continued to secretly see her over the course of a few months. Almost everyone knew about it, but no one ever told Ra.

One day, Ra stepped into Bastet's quarters and got shocked at what he saw. Anubis sitting on the bed as Bastet laid her head in his lap.

Ra asked Bastet why she disobeyed him. She answered she was in love with Anubis.

Full of jealousy, Ra chased Anubis away and decided to punish her daughter. And...he defiled her...

Thoth, the main counselor of Ra, when discovering that Bastet had been defiled by her own father, advised her to leave the palace, take shelter to Anubis palace located in Cynopolis and hide there.

Ra sent a dozen soldiers to Anubis palace, to search for Bastet, but even though she was there, they couldn't find her.

Even Anubis was surprised they did not find her. Then he saw a small black cat jumping from the window. Anubis smiled. "Lady Bastet," he assumed, "you are a clever one."

Becoming her true self, Bastet embraced Anubis.
