The Bystander wasn't meant to be a full character but the viewers loved this episode so much that Shayne has brought him back a few times since. Another fun note about this particular episode - it was the last TNTL episode released before Courtney and Shayne announced their marriage, and watching it with that mindset definitely makes you see all the hints.
