Weekly Ramblecast 002: Big Dog vMix

With Alex adrift somewhere in Utah, Vinny and Brad do what they often do when left to their own devices: get technical. First we go down the streaming rabbit hole and talk through some of the video tools we're using to do remote production right now, then we climb out of that rabbit hole only to fall right down another one about--what else?--woodworking.

The guys probably won’t see this but in OBS, you can copy an audio source and paste a reference into a new scene. Any changes made to the reference object in any scene will apply to any other scene the object is in.

I work for a TV station in Houston, Texas. We've been using Dante for a while now but recently we've been investing in SMPTE IP video and IP audio compatible switches and other equipment. Maybe one day we won't have to crimp BNC connectors on cables ever again!

I love what you guys are doing, so much in fact I'd love if the podcasts were longer. I feel like a cumulative total of 5 hrs of weekly podcasts would be perfect. Either way, keep it up I love it!

I work for the BBC in London so I'm super excited to hear you discuss this stuff. We have just opened a studio based around vMix and Dante audio (our first full IP studio), so this podcast dropped at the perfect time for me!

I fucked around with VoiceMeeter long enough to realize I would rather have a physical device and route stuff externally. Audio in Windows is a NIGHTMARE

Right there with you, Cap! Love to be able to easily re-listen to a section if I feel I've missed something.

Sam Baldwin

Really digging the format of the ramble cast and the gaming podcast. Also, let Brad talk about UDP.

Thank you for adding not just timestamps, but actual chapters this time around! I don't know how many folks use podcast apps that support it, but it sure made my day. Thanks!

Captain Ginyu

We sure Alex is in Utah? What if he is on that river in deliverance?

I used SRT to power a remote controlled video robot which now operates on the other side of the planet on a 4g connection. 2 second delay at 1080p! But still not ideal for remote control in tight quarters. I ended up having to use a Haivision server because I couldn't get any other solution to work as a server on linux... Haivision is great, but it's just a dashboard and costs money after a while, but you can create a server config in the free, remove the dashboard, image the server, and redeploy the server and reuses the existing config. If you guys, or anyone else has a line on a linux server that doesn't require that stuff, please let me know!
