Comments

I'm with Alex. Every time I watch this movie, it grows on me a little more.

Robert MacDonald

Wow, I feel like I watched a completely different movie from everyone else here.

I love this movie so much. It sags in the middle, and its really not that scary, but Sam Neil is electric and the meta-horror stuff they play with is super fun. Ending is an all-timer.

YASHA

I agree with Alex that it whips. As Lovecraftian eldritch horror films go this one still holds up for me.

Genji-Gloves

I feel Alex on this one. I love, *love, *LOVE* this film. When I heard Vinny and Brad um-ing and ah-ing at the beginning, I was all, "please don't break my heart". LOL, etc. But I'll also concede I was 18 when this film came out, and I was *all about* that type of cosmic horror at the time.

Mike Lee

I went to a screening of Hunt for the Wilderpeople with a friend because Sam Neill was going to Skype in for a Q&A. My friend, bless her, asked him if he read Sutter Cane, and he was genuinely chuffed (or that good of an actor) that she asked that. Ever the professional, he even weaved it into talking about different approaches to his roles in comedy and horror. Thanks for doing these John Carpenter Watchcasts!

Chris Clark

My favorite Carpenter movie I didn't even stumble upon until my partner showed it to me a few of years ago. Watched it yearly ever since and cannot WAIT for this review. The humor in it really helps sell the absolute dissolution of sanity and reality, and I think they play perfectly together in a way that few movies outside of "Shaun of the Dead" achieve.

Dr. Judge, Private Eye

Appreciate a good reason to see some John Carpenter movies that I haven't seen before. This was a weird one, but glad to see it.

Trevor and Adrienne R

Well, we're watching five of them this month, so hopefully that helps?

nextlander

This movie sucked. I wish we could have watched literally any other John Carpenter movie instead.
