Comments

The Cotton Club is flawed but so much of it works, especially any time Gregory Hines is on screen. The biggest problem is that the two leads, Richard Gere and Diane Lane, are the least interesting characters and Gere the least interesting performance. Well worth watching though. There’s an early and manic Nicolas Cage performance, the restaging of Harlem nightclub acts are a lot of fun (whoever they got to play Cab Calloway is perfect), the last 15 minutes are incredible, and if you like tapdancing my god is this a showcase of it.

As for Gary Oldman, watch "slow horses"! It's so great because he's the perfect type to play the "he's an asshole but he's our asshole" role. Tom Waits has a great part in the netflix "legend of Buster..." by the Coen Brothers!
