Kind of crazy hearing that carpeted basements are uncommon on the east coast. I grew up in Wisconsin and my dad was a remodeling contractor, so I helped him remodel/finish 30+ basements and each one was covered in carpeting except for the laundry room area. Hell, our own basement has had the same carpeting for 20+ years at this point.
