The Nextlander Watchcast 006: Star Trek: The Enemy Within and Mudd's Women

As we return to the world of Star Trek, we tackle a pair of episodes that truly represent the highs and lows of this series, as we experience some top flight Shatner-brand hambone acting, meet a swarthy Irish pimp, and take note of more than a few red flags about how early ST treated its women characters.

Loving this podcast. First time I've watched Mudds Women the whole way through because Im watching along with the podcast. Previously Ive gotten part way through then felt I had to just move on. One note however this *is* the first "He's dead Jim" Previously Mccoy has said "He's dead" but this was the first outing of the full quote. I laughed when I heard McCoy say it. With regards to the Federation: In cannon, from later seasons, the federation exists in this stardate, however, in terms of production the federation is not yet mentioned, only Starfleet is spoken about and is often implied to be an Earth organisation rather than part of some federation.

I finally, finally have a reason to go through these episodes. Their absence has always been this irksome hole in my pop culture knowledge but I've never really had the desire to sit down and actually watch them. I loved TNG, got a little into DS9, but the original series has always been this black sheep. Thank you for giving me, and other fellows, at least some kind of reason to watch them. If you keep this up, going through the whole original series and into TNG, I will be very happy. Also, because I'm basically sick to death of video games, but love your commentary. It's a good reason to stick around, support you guys, and get something other than, "Oh look! Another game has been delayed for twenty years."
