Comments

I think the skin surviving in the dark was meant to place a time limit on Darkman while still allowing him to store masks indefinitely for future use.

Glad to hear its genuine popular love for Darkman 1. I was afraid I was clouded by the oddities that are Darkman 2 & 3 that the original was the same. I got weirdly intrigued by the sequels when they were played on Showtime or something like that. I have the Darkman trilogy 2-disk DVD set. The sequels certainly are something. Return of Durant has him wanting to develop and sell laser riffles (everyone already has cheap and easy access to regular guns so there's no money in it). And The Darkman The has the big bad wanting to harvest the source of Darkman's physical strength (with the help of a doctor who worked on Darkman) and there's a "roid rage" war on drugs thing to it. They were made back-to-back and was originally intended to have Return of Durant be the 3rd but for whatever reason they swapped their release order around. Also the shared intro to both where new Darkman narrates his past (sometimes with Liam Neeson footage, sometimes with Arnold Vosloo re-creating the scenes) has a real "Darkman the TV series" intro vibe.
