Y’all are being too cerebral about the moral and ethical quandaries of AI. At work, the discussion isn’t about how it is very exploitative, it’s about how easy it makes writing reports and the porn AI can generate. If you listen to the higher ups, it’s about “if the AI is being used to write reports, why are we paying X amount of employees to generate them?” Anyhow, AI isn’t about freeing up work hours for some creative free time for the workers. It’s like industrial automation in the 80’s and 90’s, it’s about reducing cost by cutting down the work force. Yes, it will open up new jobs for programmers and such, but that will be 4 jobs replacing the previous 12. Given how certain segments of higher society think, what is the value of someone who has no useful skills? Why should they be kept around? Like social media, I think this variation of AI is going to do more harm than good.

Regarding Sim City. This game visually has some promise: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2287430/Metropolis_1998/

Looking forward to the Realis and thousand-piece jigsaw puzzle stream/cast! Not looking forward to whatever weird shit the Live Forever Guy is going to do to his family next!

Never been a better time to start being a creative, what with all the cheap or free open source tools available for anyone who wants to put in the effort. It's a shame AI wants to rob that journey from people, or use people's hard work to fuel soulless slop.

Regarding the music and AI conversation, there was a TV show that talked through the creation of famous albums. Inspiration for songs, how one thing took a while to come together versus one iconic section was done in one take, etc. I can imagine a lot of AI stories coming across as, “So I tried experimenting with some prompts and it took like 5 tries, but the last one was great”. Or, “So I tried AI Music App #1 and that wasn’t really doing it for me. So I went to AI Music App #2 and that turned out great”. Not saying it will always turn out that way, but I feel like a lot of the soul behind art getting made is going to go away or will boil down to “I asked the computer to do it, and it did”.

Best intro beat lead in!

I am sorry to budge into the music is hard conversation... But I started a YouTube channel just last week about making music on a budget. It's easier than it's ever been and I mean on all fronts from time, money, gear to skill. I'm 55, 3 kids, stressful job but I found a way to record music with 1 stereo mic and an iPad pro (and gig musicians from the internet) after a 20 year break. I want to share the link but do delete this comment if that's not allowed. https://youtube.com/@makingmoab?si=hc8F1iYCjWovY5Rk
