The Nextlander Podcast 183: Creative Solutions to Stupid Problems

Are they going to announce the Switch 2 this week? Did they announce it already? Is this long nightmare almost over? While we debate those questions, we also discuss The Roottrees Are Dead, Hyper Light Breaker, the "legendary" Japanese IP possibly being resurrected by Xbox, and moshing at Games Done Quick.

Yes please to a website! Even if it's just a blog or something fairly barebones, I think having something more independent/standalone from Patreon is sensible.

Hearing about a hypothetical conmen related theme on the Watchcast makes me wish they cover The Handmaiden. It’s on my short list of favorite movies ever and it does a lot of stuff with that theme.

Michael

where is this events page vinny was working on that he talks about in the beginning of the podcast?

Zab Rivera

Alex, you may already know this but speaking of The Talented Mr. Ripley, you guys should check out Purple Noon. It's the original French version starring Alain Delon. I watched it on the Criterion Channel this year and absolutely loved it.

Neil Marroquin

Someone really needs to turn on noise cancellation or stop banging away on their keyboard during the recording of a podcast…

Harith

You guys called it on the switch reveal!

Nextlander.com with forums would be nice, if bots weren't an issue (bonus points for cool html user signatures). Honestly, GB forums had it all. They were my sweet spot of interaction before game communities scattered to Discord, Youtube comments, Facebook groups, Reddit, etc. Feels like one "site" can have a half dozen distinct communities now.

Damn. ALEX did you hear about David Lynch? He passed today. News kinda messed me up and I didn't even pay attention like that until the Watchcast started doing his movies. RIP to a creative enigma of a man.

haha, yes. 100 percent! --Vinny

Super Mario Supershow definitely aired in Sweden, I watched the dubbed version on Swedish TV3!

Re: The Color of Money, Vinny is mixing up The Sting with The Hustler. All starring Paul Newman.

Re the email: When Batman 1989 came out, my dad got really excited to show me the Batman 66 show because that was the Batman from his childhood. That show is probably about as good as the Super Mario Supershow, but I love it anyway.

Michael Polston

Thanks for reading my email guys. I would have taken a photo of said doorman but that might have looked creepy!

As somebody who has gone back to pull up specific old episodes of Never Been a Better Podcast or GOTY podcasts, searching on Patreon isn’t great. Like searching “GOTY” brings back other results. I really like the shows feature Giant Bomb eventually moved towards. (It’s easier to browse like the 2017 Beastcast episodes than dig through all 300+ of them) So a schedule, some labeling on podcasts and video archives would be nice. Maybe links to things other people have been on?

Michael

The Sting rules. Paper Moon is another great classic about grifting.

Thom Konan

I thought it was just my phone since I’m on a beta.

FYI the Patreon RSS isn’t picking up the podcast
