Good evening guys! ⚔️⚔️
Hope you have had a great weekend; we have spent these last few days working hard on the first miniatures for this December 2021 Release, the one you guys voted the most in the last poll. We are super anxious to work on these miniatures because we really like the aesthetic and it seems to fit pretty well with the Christmas season!
First thing first, the December 2021 Release will be composed of:
Fanatical Zealots Unit
Inquisitorial Band
And a few more cool things!
You can see in the preview the core Male Fanatical Zealots miniatures. At the moment we are working on the rest of the Fanatical Zealots unit, so let’s talk a bit about that! 📚
This Fanatical Zealot unit is composed mainly of people condemned by the Stralsund Inquisitors for their heresy and forced to fight for the Cathedral of Sun. We have gathered a lot of cool references both from historical and fantasy backgrounds, with heavy roots on the Spanish Inquisition and their holy background.
📚 In the past, when someone was condemned by the Spanish Inquisition, they were forced to wear a cloth garment and a carboard cone in the head, sometimes painted with some colours or draws, indicating the penalty they will suffer. The cloth garment used to be named as “sambenito” and the carboard cone is called “capirote” or “capuchon”, and it is used nowadays in the Holy Week in Spain.
They also carry some papers that certify the punishment imposed by the auto-da-fe. The auto-da-fe was the ritual of public penance carried out between the 15th and 19th centuries of condemned heretics and apostates imposed by the
We have tried to represent the aesthetic of the people condemned by the Inquisition, with shackles, cloth garments, and also the aesthetic of the penitents trying to redeem their sins.
📚 For this last one purpose we have gathered also some references from our own hometown, Orihuela, which is a village located in Alicante, south of Spain. As you probably know, the Holy Week in Spain is a very famous cultural and traditional event, specially in the south of Spain. You can read more about it here: https://classroom.ricksteves.com/videos/holy-week-in-spain
Even if the most famous event is located in Sevilla, almost every big village in the south of Spain has his own representation of the Holy Week, including ours! There are two specific events happening in our village the Maundy Thursday, also called “Jueves Santo” in Spanish, that we have used to create some of the miniatures.
This one, called The Silence: https://www.enamoradosdealicante.com/fotos/el-silencio-3/is a very solemn procession in which all the lights of the city are turned off and only the lanterns of the penitents illuminate the streets. And this one, called Christ of The Good Death: http://cristobuenamuerteorihuela.es/procesion.htmis celebrated in the midnight, where the penitents wear those long cloth masks and torches. Very scary!
Hope you like the miniatures and the history behind them guys, we ready you as always! ❤️
