I feel they're both right in a way, however I doubt that her just pumping up more muscle would "fix" her bad structure so to speak. It is a big part of her character physically and I hope she still retains some limitation in what she can do instead of getting buff and being able to do everything a dog with better structure can. Keirr is right that it would help her balance but Fraujar is also kinda right in that nothing will fix a messed up skeletal structure.

Look how much Niita changed - she went from (basically) Aira to being a strong dog, not only as a warrior but as a huntress, too. She was even strong enough to accept a relationship and bore offspring, which certainly can happen to Aira, too. Aira is a very submissive dog, but we can see that she's not completely a huge risk to take on. In the third panel, we can see her actually baring her fangs. Perhaps out of fear, but it could possibly mean that she can infact defend herself if she's forced into that situation. If she's strong enough to bare fangs (show her fangs not only as a 'back off' sign, but her snout got wrinkled, while if she exclaimed purely out of fear, she would have opened her mouth instead, yet it's only a mere guess), then she can, in fact, be aggressive. This could only be a theory, but nevertheless, Aira can be very aggressive if she pushes herself to that point. You have to remember something. She was a beast that killed everything in sight for around 30 years. She's killed a LOT and, in turn, has built up the ability to be aggressive, even while she was fully conscious in beast form, considering she DID recognize her name and kept the memory of trying to break free instead of losing a want and becoming a wild animal. I believe that she will be able to not only build character, but she will be able to build the needed muscle to become a fierce (and once again) feared female. It will take time, yes. Everything takes time and time heals all wounds, no matter if they are physical or not. I think those two get that and, if Keirr and possibly a dog with a suitable rank for it, will teach Aira a little more, then she will be considered a valuable asset instead of a risk. I believe she's considered a risky gamble because she not only is unable to defend herself, but no one will be able to depend on her for certain things. No one can depend on her being responsible and capable enough to bring food, to defend the territory, and be a helpful guide for someone - like Felidae has been with the duo. If she were an advantage (like an asset), then she would be able to do all of those things and possibly even get strong enough footing and stability to not only care for herself, but possible young if she wishes to settle and bore some pups with someone. I believe both of them see this, especially Fraujar. He seems like he does in fact care for her, even if he has to be harsh. To be a good ruler, he needs to test the dogs' patience, intelligence, belligerence, and loyalty to become a suitable member and a possible candidate to have a rank - not only that, but be apart of the tribe and become family with the members. He *needs* to be harsh and strict because, if he weren't, he wouldn't prove to be a good leader. A leader must know when to take charge and when to apply rules and dominance. He tested her in this very moment to see really how bad (or good) she would be. Obviously, by his statement, he is neutral. He *can* see the room for improvement, but he's obviously iffy about the entire thing. Like Keirr said, everything wrong with her can be fixed if she tried or expressed a want to. It also seems like he understands or see's an actual advantage if he does take on Keirr, considering he's able to have this kind of talk with him, despite not knowing him whatsoever. Even some leaders don't talk this way to dogs that have been in their tribe for possibly months - mainly due to rank or arrogance of ones self-importance. I don't know. Let's see what happens next - I'm sure Keirr's turn will be coming soon.

Clearly he is just making his point, he isn't being aggressive, like we were worried about when he showed excitement about being chosen for the rite. Keirr is showing concern and restraint and he is clearly going to make a case for Aira. In doing so, he's making it clear to Fraujar that he and Aira are a package deal and Keirr won't stay without her.

2017-12-18 00:40:18 +0000 UTCFraujar's expression is very telling here. In the second to last panel, he seems genuinely concerned for Aira. I don't think that he relishes putting her through this test, when right off the bat he knew that Aira was a submissive and self-conscious dog. He seems like such a caring and well-meaning individual (his play/training with his pup is a great portrayal of who he genuinely is). That being said, when you become a leader, you have to make hard choices for the good of the entire pack as a whole. I don't think that he wants to dismiss Aira outright, but he knows that letting her into the tribe means that she will form emotional attachments and, in a logistical sense, she will be yet another depletion of resources (one more mouth to feed). If she cannot return that cost by being a strong hunter, fierce warrior (let's not forget that the Meteor Tribe is the closest neighbor to Fraujar's family), or loving caretaker (poor Aira has been too shy and withdrawn to form friendships within the tribe thus far), she is more of a risk than an asset. Fraujar as an individual might want to offer her a place in the tribe, but as a leader he may be forced to turn her away. I really love the way that the artists have been able to express such a complex character like Fraujar in just a few exchanges and scenes. I hope that he will listen to Keirr and give Aira the benefit of the doubt (she has the potential to be strong, fierce, and loving per her outspoken "do we look like Meteor blood?" comment); but if not, I would certainly sympathize as to why.
