Chapter 1: The Exchange Student.
-0-
Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I’d end up enrolling in another school—especially one outside my own country.Yet here I was, an exchange student from Germany, standing at the gates of Kuoh Academy.
Kuoh Highschool also known as the highschool of drooling perverts.
That was the reputation it carried, and from what I’d seen so far, it wasn’t entirely exaggerated.
After all, this place used to be an all girls school until recently. Now, they’d opened their doors to male students, and you could tell the guys were still trying to adapt to this sudden paradise.Honestly, the thought of attending an academy full of beautiful Japanese girls sounded like a dream come true. A harem without effort, if you asked me.
But life never plays fair.Instead of enjoying that fantasy, I somehow found myself stuck with two of the most hopeless idiots in the world.
Before that though Japan itself had been a huge change.I’d moved in with my grandpa when I came here. He’d been practically glowing with excitement about the whole arrangement.
My grandpa was what I’d call a “pure Japanese fan,” if such a term even existed. His entire house was decorated with samurai swords, armor, and scrolls of old legends. He loved the food, the culture, the tea ceremonies you name it.
I understood his passion, but there was something else behind that gleeful grin of his.Something he wasn’t saying.
Still, I didn’t question it much. I had my own distractions to worry about—mainly my two new “friends,” Matsuda and Motohama.
---
“Hey Levy,” Motohama called, adjusting his glasses in that smug way he thought made him look intelligent.
“How do you say ‘you come to my place today’ again? There’s this new porn game out, and man—have I prepared a dozen tissues for the occasion.”
I froze, blinking at him.
He said that with a straight face.
“I think I’ll pass,” I sighed, rubbing my forehead. “You guys have been ruining my reputation lately. The girls in the entire school have started avoiding me like the plague.”
Tears almost welled in my eyes as I looked at them pitifully.
“Whoa, man, you don’t have to pretend you’re better than us,” Matsuda cut in, smirking like he’d found a weak spot.“I mean, talk about a lame ass like you flexing your broken English. You almost made me crack the first time you spoke.”
His words hit harder than they should’ve.Did these guys ever stop to think before speaking?.I knew I wasn’t the best at English or Japanese but did they really have to stab my pride like that?
Matsuda then gave me a pat on the back. “But hey, at least you got one thing going for you. You’re good at chess, man. Winning in a row against the renowned Red Empress of Kuoh Academy? That’s pretty cool.”
“Yeah…” I muttered, though I didn’t feel proud at all. Chess wasn’t exactly a “cool” skill here. Anyone could learn the basics, pick up a few tricks, and call themselves a prodigy.
“Yeah, I bet if I had one redeeming quality,” Motohama started saying, “I would’ve kissed goodbye to my virg—”
He didn’t even finish. The moment the word virgin reached his tongue, it was like kryptonite to him. He stopped mid sentence, clutching his chest dramatically and wobbling like a toddler who’d dropped his toy.
I sighed again. These guys were hopeless.
“What about your friend Issei?” I asked, glancing at Motohama. “He doesn’t seem all that cool, yet he’s surrounded by chicks from the Occult Club every day.”
The moment that name left my lips, everything changed.Their bodies stiffened, expressions darkening instantly. The atmosphere went from lazy banter to pure tension.
“Hey Levy,” Motohama said slowly, pushing up his glasses. “Did you forget the new rules we set for the group or do you need a topic reminder?”
His voice dropped lower, almost sinister. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, beaten up notebook. The cover read, in bold letters: “Pervert Bro Code Rules.”
He flipped through the pages like some serious secretary reading meeting minutes. Finally, he found the one he wanted.
“Rule number thirty-four,” he announced solemnly. “No saying the word Issei between us. That guy betrayed the bro code and secured himself some gorgeous babes while leaving us in the dust.”
“Damn, bro. He was once your best friend,” I said, a little shocked. “You don’t have to hold a grudge just because some girls like him.”
Matsuda slammed his fist on the desk.
“Bro… you dare say that? That guy betrayed us and worse, he started hanging out with the beauties of the school! Rias Gremory, and the Boob Queen herself, Akeno Himejima!”
“Jeez, my guy, no need to yell.” I raised my hands in defense, but before our argument could go further, the entire classroom suddenly erupted with screams.
Not screams of fear fan screams.
Rias and Akeno had just entered the class.
The energy changed in an instant.Students turned in their seats, whispers filled the air, and even the teacher’s droning voice faded into the background.
“Woah, they’re so gorgeous,” one girl whispered.
“Yeah, talk about beauty in perfection,” another sighed dreamily. “I wish I had crimson hair like hers.”
Rias and Akeno, however, didn’t seem to care about the attention. They walked gracefully through the crowd elegant, confident, untouchable and then stopped right where we sat.
The entire class fell silent.
Why would the school’s most idolized girls come to us the pathetic trio of Kuoh’s infamous perverts?
Rias’s eyes locked onto me.“Hey there,” she said softly. “What did you say to my offer? How about you come to the Occult Club with me, and we can discuss it in more… consideration.”
She placed her hand just beneath her chest an innocent gesture, yet every guy in the room forgot how to breathe.
Motohama’s glasses flashed dangerously. “36-24-36,” he murmured under his breath. “Perfect body figure.”
I wanted to die right there.
Akeno, standing beside Rias, wore that same sly smile that could melt through steel. The playful sparkle in her eyes made her seem both angelic and dangerous.
I exhaled and leaned back in my chair. “How about I decline? I’ve got better things to do.”
The room went silent again.
I could feel the shock around me like I’d just punched a divinity in the face.
Even Motohama and Matsuda were gaping at me, though deep down, I knew they were secretly proud I’d upheld one of their ridiculous rules: Bro Code Number 23—No guy should get a chick before the others. If so, we share.
But that wasn’t why I declined.
Not even close.
“Ohhh,” Rias said slowly, tilting her head. Her eyes sharpened, though her lips curled into a mischievous smile. And the moment I saw that expression I knew I was f###d.
“Say, Levy Maxwell,” she began, voice sweet but laced with something dangerous. “I seem to recall hearing about a new secret fan club that’s formed recently. We found missing undergarments from the girls’ lockers… adult magazines… and some very seductive pictures taken from the changing rooms.”
The color drained from Matsuda and Motohama’s faces.
Rias continued, “Including pictures of me, posted on the walls of a certain hidden room.”
The air around us grew heavy. Her tone was cold but playfully threatening. Matsuda and Motohama clutched their butts like they’d just been sentenced to death.
“And,” she added, smiling, “we also found candles in that room it was as if someone was worshipping those pictures.”
I buried my face in my hands.
Of course they did.
“And if I may continue,” Rias said, folding her arms elegantly, “we found out who the executives of that little club were. I wonder what would happen if this report were to get out?” Her eyes gleamed. “What kind of massacre do you think would befall you and your little friends? The girls of Kuoh Academy would slaughter you and I’d gladly join them. Wouldn’t you say so, Akeno?”
Akeno giggled, raising her hand. Sparks of lightning danced between her fingers. “Gladly,” she said sweetly with a normal devilish smile.
Motohama and Matsuda’s souls visibly left their bodies.
In that instant, they dropped to their knees and bowed to me.
Their eyes screamed: Please, accept her offer.
“Talk about abiding by the code,” I muttered dryly, shaking my head.
In the end, I had no choice but to accept Rias’s invitation. My reputation and possibly my life I'm the school was on the line. I didn't want my already ruined reputation to collapse to the abyss.
