Doing better, hopefully going home today
Added 2022-08-21 13:48:16 +0000 UTCHad a procedure yesterday to clean out my common bile duct. Apparently it was filled with gunk and a stone and causing my liver to fail. I am doing better today, bad numbers are down, mood improved, and hopefully will be headed home today. I think its safe to say I hit my deductible for the year.

I guess it's hard to switch from one system to a different other as well, it takes time! It's a slow process...

2022-08-21 15:39:28 +0000 UTCUniversal healthcare works great for a homogenized nation with similar health problems, which America isn't. Before Obamacare (which is sort of like America's universal healthcare) people would still be treated and would either be comped or reduced in price by the hospital, paid for by charity, or unfortunately, refused service for non emergency care. One avenue our system had to forgive medical debt was filing for bankruptcy, which aside from its own issues, would reduce your debt to 0. I am not saying it is or was the best system, lots of things could be improved on, but universal healthcare is much harder to do with a largely populated country with a very diverse population.

2022-08-21 14:33:22 +0000 UTCCare is paid for by your taxes :). But yeah each plan is different, you can pay a lower premium for a higher dedctible id you are healthy and don't plan to use healthcare much. Or if you are unhealthy or have a family you can pay i higher premium for a lower max out of pocket. There are other things that contribite to your max out of pocket like co-pays (urgent or emergency care or checkups are paid mostly by insurance and you cover a smaller portion) and medication costs.

2022-08-21 14:32:21 +0000 UTCI knew about insurances but I didn't know there was some kind of 'max cost' for the individual before the incidence kicked in? Or is it different between companies? I live in Sweden and care is free ❤️

2022-08-21 14:18:25 +0000 UTCAmerican's pay for health insurance to cover their medical costs. I don't mind the system, but its broken in a few ways that really detracts from its efficacy.
