November 2021 Newsletter

November is a busy month, and we took our damn sweet time getting this newsletter out, but that's how it goes here in the dregs of the year. Leave us a comment or a like on this post if you are actually reading this.

Lots of cool updates here at Ranged Touch HQ as we close out the year. We've got a new Ranged Touch Podcast for you with this release, and it also has a video element that you can check out alongside the audio for the show. We're playing some Earth Defense Force and getting wild with it.

We've got new episodes of Just King Things. We read through Christine, a novel about a car that transforms a guy into an evil greaser. The bonus episode, which you can listen to if you're a $5/month supporter, is about the John Carpenter film. If you like listening to us go Super Cool Film Studies, this is the bonus episode for you. Check it out here.

We did an episode of Game Studies Study Buddies centered on Jacques Ranciere's The Ignorant Schoolmaster. This is probably the weirdest episode of the show that we have done yet, and we dig into the absolute strangeness of education and how it could work in games and life. Listen here. 

We've finished New Vegas and you can check out the episode of Too Much Future about the end of that game. We've also done the first DLC, which turns the game into a survival horror experience, and we have some very strong reactions to it. Check it out. 

Homestuck Made This World continues. Michael is doing the history and explanation, and Cameron is struggling his way through Homestuck. We have episodes out all the way through the famed "Intermission," and even if you don't care about Homestuck, we know you will like this show. Listen to it!  

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

On December 3rd, we will launch two new Patreon tiers. 

One will be for $10, and will be for the Homestuck bonus episodes. The Homestuck bonus eps will come out once per month. Fitting to the subject, these will be quite a bit weirder that the bonus episodes for other shows. We'll be talking about Homestuck influences, connective tissue, etc. The first episode will be on Con Air, and will release on the 12/24 alongside our second Homestuck episode for December. Future episodes will cover Problem Sleuth, The Neverending Story, Little Monsters, Undertale, some Homestuck fanworks, and whatever else we want to do. That is not the planned order, just an idea of what we're about. 

The other new Patreon tier will be for an experimental private monthly livestream show over Discord. We'll be picking one day a month sit down, watch something weird live in front of an audience on Discord, and then have a bit of a live Q+A with the community. These won't be saved or preserved in any way. It's all about the live show! The first one of those will be held on December 11th at 6pm Eastern. We'll vary times and days of the week in future months. This tier, for the diehard Rangers who really want to see our opinions about strange documentaries or tv shows we find, will be at $20.
