January 2020 Newsletter

Zip! Zoom! Pow! It's like we're a comic book over here. It's the brand new year, and that means a whole bunch of months for us to be late typing these up. More seriously, we want to shoutout the Ranged Touch Nation for being so supportive of what Ranged Touch does here. We're not a normal podcast/YouTube whatever zone, and we do some stuff that's pretty out there, but you're all game and, importantly, monetarily supporting of what we do. We wouldn't be able to dedicate nearly as much time as we do to things like GAME STUDIES STUDY BUDDIES, SWORD COAST: COAST 2 COAST, TOO MUCH FUTURE or our sundry other things without knowing that, hey, we're not doing it into the void. And for that we thank you!

Speaking of the things we do:

November saw the creation and uploading of the GSSB episode on James S. Hans' The Play of the World, and December was our episode on Henry Jenkins' article "Game Design As Narrative Architecture". Both are excellent (we think), and they gave us the chance to dig into some alternate methods for game studies. If you want to think expansively about games, these are good to listen to.

SC:C2C released a massive holiday special that Michael keeps referring to via that image of Garfield with a pipe. Curious? Check it out. It's probably as good an episode as any to start with.

TOO MUCH FUTURE, our show about the Fallout games, just wrapped up Fallout. You can now watch and listen to more than six delectable hours of Michael and CMRN talking about how weird that game is. You can also learn about Tonk and True Tonk. Watch the episodes! [Remember: if you're a $3+ patron, you can access an RSS feed instead of mere YouTube.]

And, if you're a $5+ a month patron, there's a new episode of the Secret Let's Play coming for you in the next few days. I just need to edit it. Wahoo!

Some other stuff to look forward to: CMRN is going to start releasing the PUBG videos that used to be on Twitter via YouTube. There's a new multiplayer game that looks very cool, and there's going to be a community video going up about it. The new Magic set is coming out shortly, so CMRN will probably stream and release a prerelease.

That's all! We release a lot of stuff for two people with day jobs, so both Michael and CMRN and the ghost of Danni thank you for your support here and everywhere else. We're still accepting catchphrase submissions for all of our shows. We don't know how to end anything.
