Random Bits o’ Drive-In News (Air Date 8/90)

Howdy, Mutants! Here’s a lil’ bit o’goodness I thought might help get your weekend off to a nice start: 4 Clips of Joe Bob’s Drive-In News where he covers such hot-button issues as Frankenhooker (yay!), Deadbeat at Dawn, and Return to the Blue Lagoon. 😉

I’m actually with JB at Days of the Dead (Chicago) right now, and I asked him to explain these segments for anyone who might not be familiar with them. He said “They were segments to divide the two movies on The Movie Channel because we didn’t have any commercials. I don’t remember any of them.” 😋

Enjoy! And thanks soooo much to everyone stopping by our booth this weekend! It’s always so fun to get to meet and chat with y‘all in person! I leave you (for now!) with this iconic pic I took tonight when JB finally got to meet Tony Todd. (Definitely working on getting him on the show soon... 😉🤞)

OMG! I had a Bare Facts Video Guide! I don't quite remember how I got my hands on it at my age, but I definitely had it. It was twice the size of the one Joe Bob showed in the segment. It was VERY detailed, and I kind of could not believe the dude who wrote it was operating alone for the most part. If I wasn't looking for something weird Joe Bob mentioned, it was something mentioned in that book. Looking for Mr. Goodbar was definitely one of those movies (it does not have a moment of happy in it, but Diane Keaton is quite amazing in it). The MPAA talk was interesting. The Cook, The Thief, His Wife, Her Lover was quite original. If you ever wanted to see Dame Helen Mirren politely ask that a person be literally cooked (and then it happens), this is your movie. Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! (which was a great movie) was not the last time an Almodovar movie got slapped with a strong rating for literally one scene. Bad Education (Gael Garcia Bernal did Oscar level work in it, which included speech work to speak Spanish with a believable Castilian accent, but, foreign film, so not noticed) while it had a dark plot, was definitely not NC-17 scale material (a mostly obscured gay sex scene did it in). I mentioned in another post that I loved Frankenhooker and really hope it is done on The Last Drive In someday. I *might* sometimes do an impression of Patty Mullen's "WANNA DATE!?" at random to my cat.

Deathstalker 3 is one of my favorite MST3K episodes. "Hey, someone teepeed your ghost!" - Crow

I saw that just for Bill Murray's review.

All she did before that was the pilot for Parker Lewis Can't Lose.

The fact that the MPAA wanted to give Frankenhooker an S for Shit rating was very funny. That movie is a classic Patty Mullins did such a great job with that role

don't take away the kitties in blenders! So funny!

Darcy can we please bring back Drive-In News! 🙂

Milla Ja-vo-vitch. It’s so wild to realize that there was a time when everyone didn’t know her name. Loved this!

These are gold.

The Frankenhooker information is AMAZING. Such a great post.

Doing such an awesome job restoring these! So happy they’re not lost forever, thank you Darcy for saving them! See you two in July!

That's awesome! I wish I was there.

Woo! Any chance some of the longer videos will be uploaded to YouTube? Vimeo doesn't allow casting with Chromecast so no way to watch on my TV without lag 😞
