bro, don't be so defensive. i wrote two messages on sunday--one of which was was a droll response to someone applauding Bloom for his bravery for doing hot takes on his managed blog--the other was longer, and explained that I was dropping the Joe Bob/Bloom support for the nose dive in writing quality his second post represented (a theme you also addressed). Both posts were eventually deleted by the "mod"/patreon mail girl. There was nothing incendiary in there; just a lot of disapointment. And the patreon blog of a supposed lolbertarian deleted them. The internet has legit driven people insane in the manner in which it has limited discourse, and there is no point in trying to reason with it

At any rate I've already apologized for my response. And I've already given an explanation. There's no hate for John his alter ego Joe Bob or Darcy. There is a hate of the topic and a lack of desire to consume more of that topic. And consider that although I was very vocal in my opinion there were quite a few people who held similar opinions that didn't take quite as much of a stand. I THINK ULTIMATELY THE POINT IS REGARDLESS OF MY OPINION (FOR OR AGAINST) ON ANY TOPIC. JOHN (AND EVERYONE ELSE) IS FREE TO HAVE THEIR OWN OPINIONS AND COMMUNICATE THEM AS THEY SEE FIT. My position was more so that as an entertainer it is better to maintain a neutral position in order to avoid alienating people who would otherwise continue to consume their product. Coming into the patreon for the first time the last thing I wanted to do was see in my face a conflict unfolding about abortion rights. Whether or not the catalyst was a joke perhaps there could have been more moderation in the thread to avoid allowing the conflict to happen. It's off-putting and it got the worst response from me. I have not known there to be these sorts of conflicts in the past. As a general rule I tend to focus on entertainment that predates the hyperpoliticalization and activism of literally everything. This puts me square in the '80s and '90s for the majority of the content that I consume with a few outliers that have remained more or less agnostic being featured before and after that date range. I really do wish John as many more years of success as he wishes to pursue. I just don't want to see yet another space go toxic with malignant activism and politics. THIS IS HOWEVER JOHN'S SPACE AND DESPITE BRANDING APPEARS TO BE MORE ABOUT JOHN THAN JOE BOB AND THE LAST DRIVE-IN AND THAT IS PERFECTLY FINE. I'm glad to have been a regular consumer of your product since about 1987. It was a more wholesome alternative to watching John Binar's Bizarre.

A fan of Joe Bob is not necessarily a fan of John Bloom. Joe Bob is a character in much the same way Pee-wee Herman is not Paul Reubens. People who consume Pee-wee Herman do not necessarily like Paul Reubens. There is a disconnect between characters and the people who portray them.

So we have all of these "Joe Bob" fans and they don't even know who Joe Bob really is? He has always been a writer first and foremost and has tackled subjects like politics, religion and even more. John Bloom wrote a fantastic column at Takimag for years. Even if what he says isn't 100% agreeable GET OVER IT! We are all INDIVIDUALS! We should not all think alike, and it is OK to have a different opinion than the masses. Get it together people.

Folks, this is an honest suggestion: if you have never read THE COSMIC WISDOM OF JOE BOB BRIGGS (Random House, 1991) or any of his other non-film books written as Joe Bob, please check them out. Joe Bob the character has always been about more than drive-in movies. In WISDOM he tackles politics (including the debate that has caused the previous stir), religion, a certain NY real estate dude, and a helluva lot more. If you want real insight into Joe Bob the character, I implore you to look deeper than the movie reviews and television shows. The man's a brilliant writer and astute observer, regardless of where you stand on his politics. He's never been just about horror movies.

A dog whistle to politics is a dog whistled to politics even if you choose to parse words... and you are a cunning linguist... It's also disingenuous to cover yourself under etymology. I respect you having a different opinion... and honestly we don't... I'm a realist in the matter... It has just become impossible to go anywhere without politics, activism, and wokist takes on everything. My tolerance has gotten very low. To be honest what set me off was going to an entertainment outlet (Patreon) where I'm paying top-tier to support The Last Drive-In... Something that I have supported with my voice and by gathering up a large group of people to watch you throughout your career... and first thing I see is a thread of political squabbling after committing to your top tier subscription ... It was annoying. Up until the last 2 seasons maybe The Last Drive-In has been a refuge from all the nonsense. It's just very disappointing. I had expected more value added in terms of movies, history, humor, commentary on actors, writers, creature fx, directors, etc. ... It was honestly a bit of a shock to see politics here. As you said in general the mutants tend to be a lot more reasonable. Keep doing what you do. I didn't come here to change John Bloom... I came here for more of your character. I'm not really interested in John Bloom. If Joe Bob is essentially dead at this point in anything but a name then the product I purchase is no longer available and that's fine.
