Wild weather--hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, typhoons, wind storms--are comforting to us. Because we all agree on what the rules are. Anybody zonked by the wild weather is a 100 percent victim. Anybody who helps somebody else dig out of the wild weather is a 100 percent hero. The aftermath of wild weather means we all agree that people should be helped with donations and government assistance. Nobody fights over wild weather. Nobody says "He deserved it because he bought that cheap aluminum siding" or "What did she expect? She lives in a trailer house."
Wild weather doesn't have any political parties. Wild weather creates community.
