The hands in progress...

It might sound odd, but making these hands has been the most surprising part of this build so far. Such delicate little parts, yet so important to the visual impression of the clock. Barely a few hundredths of a mm between correct and dead wrong. Still need to bevel and blue, but wanted to show you what they look like tonight.

Working hard on the vids folks, thanks for being patient.

Chris.

I am ever patient........I'd rather wait for a proper, prefect thing than rush and make do with a bodge job....take your time and don't worry about how long it takes to get video's up, we all know your a perfectionist and are happy to wait, I know I am. Your video's just wouldn't feel or look so great if rushed

Cheers Al :)

... regarding what takes the longest, its 50/50 editing/shooting. The machining is generally the quickest part, but setting up the shot and lighting it can take quite a bit of time. Its surprisingly difficult sometimes to get a clean shot of what I'm making.

Cheers Tim, I appreciate that. It does kind of bother me a bit that I take so long to get these videos out, so I appreciate you making me feel better about it!

Take all the time you need. The wider audience - myself included - will learn much more with a well-crafted video. Out of curiosity Chris, which do you spend more time on: recording the source material (e.g. turning, milling, etc) or editing/splicing the resulting film?

Tim Blakely

Love the design and the execution, can't wait for the video.

Al McKague

Awesome Mark, So pleased to hear that!!

Hey Chris, it's worth the wait so in the mean time I'll grab a few of Tubal Cain's videos to keep me occupied! I've used the fire piston a couple of times working a treat, friends are like "where can I get one of those". He he!

Cheers Nils!

Hey Tom, work has been getting in the way of the videos lately, hence the delay. Hoping to get some solid shop time this weekend.

Hey Paul, this design is the classic hand design made famous by AL Breguet. It is such a profoundly simple design, I love it - one circle slightly offset within another, the point fashioned to look like a birds beak. The initial layout was done using SW and a paper template, but for something this small, the final finishing is essentially freehand.

Chris, Nice work -- as always. So how did you decide in the proportions? Like you said the dimensions are fiddly. Even adding a bevel is a risk as it could change the look. Once you have the design, fabricating them precisely is a shop challenge to be sure but I am also interested in the design process. Did you make test pieces? Was the design inspired by other classic clocks? Or was this a SolidWorks "one and done" exercise?

Paul

Looking forward to the build video for these. The symmetry and precision seem impossible.

Fantastic Chris, I'm sure the video will be well worth it. I pretty certain that your videos are the ones I look forward to most. Well Also Ave.

Nils Rohwer

Thanks Ørjan, very much appreciate that mate :)

In Norway we have an expression saying if you wait for a long time, you're waiting for something great. Looking forward to the video, Chris! Quality over quantity :)

Ørjan Fredheim

Looking amazing as always. Thanks Chris!

Iván Stepaniuk

Fantastic! Can't wait to see what you come up with next.
