An update for you!
The research paper is progressing well, and the bulk of the work is complete. The process is now largely out of my hands, but I should have an idea of how its progressing through peer review within a few weeks. It has been an excruciatingly slow process to navigate, and I may yet have to divert more time into it if we hit any snags. For now though, I'm going to get back into the video making, and so Patron charges will recommence from October 1st. I'll keep you posted on the paper as I learn more.
As it happens, there was quite a bit of hurry up and wait throughout the process, so I used some of the down time to catch up on the CAD work for the next few projects, as well as pick up some new skills. One in particular I'm pleased to be able to share with you today in the video above. This is a short excerpt from a collaboration video that has been slowly coming together over the last 6 months, and should be out in a few days. And yes, I've kept every sketch and butchered piece of metal all along the way! So at some point I will put together a video that covers the whole process of getting to grips with this new skill from start to finish. Keep an eye out in the future for some vids on electroplating too.
You'll notice that the video above is on a new channel called "Clickspring Clips". I figure there are a lot of people who don't yet know that they love machining who probably skip right past a 20 minute machining video, so this is something I want to try out to see if it ropes in those potential viewers. Its mostly old content presented in a much shorter format, so you will already have seen most of it, and I've only just started to get it all organised. But if you have the time, head on over and give it a sub and maybe share a few of the clips - lets see if we can wake up the YouTube algorithm :)
Many thanks for your patience and continued support folks, and keep an eye out for the collab video to drop in the next few days, its easily one of the best fun videos I've ever made.

It feels a bit like being back in college waiting for exam results!

If you're looking for a small video to smash out, I'm sure there is a bunch of other people like me interested in the workings of said engraving tool, and maybe some techniques and understanding of the limits and what you can do with it. Good luck with the waiting on the paper, I hear it can be frustrating but eventually rewarding :-D

A slightly more accurate descriptor might be 'Horological English Scroll', but the word horological is a bit long and I felt it would take up too much room on the thumbnail! Basically I've been learning the style that was used on the high end English watches and chronometers from late 17th to early 19thC

The scrolls are much larger and you have more depth to the design. That being said, your engraving looks incredible! Well done!

I'm a big fan of 19th century architecture and aesthetics, the scrollwork, gothic and baroque ornamentation that was on lots of tools and buildings and machines in that period is breathtaking in its flourishing form and the sheer amount of human effort that goes into making it.
