Yes, really!

Good morning!

I noticed I had been slipping away in my conversations with God. It was subtle and not overt at all. However, my typical morning time of quiet was frequently interrupted with “oh, let me just order this really quick on Amazon” which of course leads to things that remind me of other things that seem all too important in the moment.

Gradually, I was feeling unsettled. In my brief moment of silence when I stopped to hear from God, I was flooded with love. No condemnation. No bashing me for “knowing better”.....I distinctly heard, “I love nothing more than to be with you….to talk to you.”

Really???? Could that be God?

I know what I deserve! I definitely should know better. I’ve been down this road too many times. Could that be God who wouldn’t come at me with a scolding finger and an “I told you so?”

That is exactly who God is and how God talks! He loves us! He knows how this world is. He knows how our brains work. He knows we have emotional highs and lows and that we flounder sometimes. And yet, He loves us.

I definitely get directions from Him that help spur me onto what makes me feel better. I’m not saying that there aren’t better ways to live that will help avoid these traps. The Spirit is gentle and yet powerful in how He delivers these packages called “love directions.” But, He doesn’t come at us like a tyrant, angry and hostile.

No, He says, “You are my child and an heir of My Kingdom. Come and See how good I am!”

And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God. Galatians 4:6-7
