Good morning!

“God, I thank You that my life is just as it is. Every problem has been Your gift to bring me to the place where I am right now. You wouldn’t have permitted any of these things to happen if You hadn’t known that it was best for me. God, You really do love me!”

This comes from the book “Power in Praise” and is a statement made by a woman who went through some major difficulties in her life. She was still in the middle of it all when she made this statement.

The posture of her heart was in such a good place of acceptance and looking to God as a child in faith. Although she ended up having life immediately turn for good after this, that isn’t always the case with all who practice praise.

Praise can never be used as a tool to manipulate God. We don’t do things to try to get Him to do what we want. As long as we approach God with any spiritual discipline like praise, worship, fasting, etc with an agenda, our hearts are not right and we won’t truly desire what He desires.

Knowing that God is good and always working for our good puts us in a place where we can choose with our minds (choose our thoughts) to believe Him. We can praise Him for who He is and not what we think we must have in order to carry on in life.

O Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you and praise your name, for in perfect faithfulness you have done marvelous things, things planned long ago.

Isaiah 25:1

Application: Is there any manipulative agenda I can detect in how I approach God?

That's good!

This is so excellent! God convicted me of this a few weeks ago. I had entered his gates with praise and thanksgiving but soon it devolved to my list. My list had expected outcomes. God said “why are you trying to manipulate me?”. I was stunned. I never thought of it that way but that’s exactly what it is. I repented and changed my heart to love and trust God to determine the appropriate outcome for every situation. Hallelujah!
