Good morning!
Worship has been a word that I have explored countless times. I don’t know why it feels elusive to me sometimes. Perhaps it is because it looks different in different situations, with different people.
I have read definitions and Bible verses and I feel like I get the general idea but maybe I want to know that I’ve really “done” it! Haha! Back to that performance mentality that Pastor Jim talks about!
There is definitely a sense of worship that you get when you are focused on God and His power, glory and presence. You cannot help but feel so small in comparison. But, I don’t think it is just feelings based. It is action, focus, intention.
“Worship is accepting the situation I am now in as my opportunity to learn, not continually begging God to make things different.” Merlin Carothers from More Power to You
I hadn’t thought of worship in that way but it makes sense. It is another form of praise, it seems. It is such a perspective shift when you stop the habit of begging God to change the situation and you sit at His feet instead and ask Him what lesson you can learn.
And I believe therein lies the power of worship: the focus on God, that He is good and He is in control and has good plans. The shift off of self and onto God and that childlike trust once again!
Now I’ll worship you passionately and bring to you my sacrifice of praise, drenched with thanksgiving!
