Good morning!
Most of us at one time or another recycle things within our lives. The biggest, sometimes “baddest” is our past. Rehash, recycle, repeat. How much time we spend in that cycle can determine our present and our future.
Blind Bartimaeus threw off his cloak and ran in faith toward Jesus for healing. Metaphorically, we can see that he didn’t let anything put a wedge between him and the Savior. He was told by Jesus “your faith has healed you.” Mark 10:52
His identity as a blind man didn’t stop him from receiving the healing Jesus was offering. His faith led him to be obedient and trust.
So many times our identity is shaped by our past and that informs our decisions and feelings today, which leads into our future. But if we truly understand faith, we don’t have to let the past shape us anymore. Faith is a certain trust in the object of our faith. It doesn’t have to do with US or how we feel/how strong we feel/what we have done yesterday or any of the yesterdays we have lived through.
Faith is something we all have, it just depends from one person to another what the object of our faith is. If our faith is in Jesus, because of what we know of Him and our relationship with Him, then our feelings don’t have to dictate our identity. We know that Jesus can use any and all of our past for good and even the consequences can serve a purpose. Do you know why? Because He is God and He can do anything! And He delights to make us new creations that rely on Him!
If there is any area of your life that the past keeps weighing heavy on you, you can release it to Jesus in faith and remind yourself that He uses ALL things to shape us, grow us and lead us!
Let us rejoice in the Lord always! Again, I say rejoice!
