Good morning!

As obvious as this seems, I was thinking about how I’m so glad that God is not human and that His character and nature cannot change no matter what.

The longer one lives, the more you realize that everyone, including ourselves, fails short in so many ways. The world wants us to put our hope on a person, money, status, position for our security. But inevitably all of those things fall short. We fall short. We muddle around for a while. Sometimes we pull ourselves up by our bootstraps for a while until we fall short again. Maybe we beat ourselves up over it. Maybe we beat other people up over it (hello, victim mentality).

But, there is a better way. And I’m glad the writer of Psalm 107 hit me over the head the last few weeks with the recurring phrase…..”Let them give thanks to the Lord for His unfailing love.”

As you read through the psalm, you find all the plights of humans:

-wandering

-hungry and thirsty

-lives ebbing away

-sitting in darkness & deepest gloom

-prisons suffering in chains

-rebelling against the words of God

-suffering afflictions

BUT God - that is the phrase that changes it all. He is not a human. He is steadfast no matter what. And here are a few of the reasons we should focus on Him:

-we cry out to Him and He delivers us from our distress

-He redeems us

-He leads us in the straight ways

-He satisfies the thirsty and hungry with good things

-He brings us out of darkness and breaks all our chains

-He sends forth His word and heals us

He lifts the needy out of their affliction

Why does He do all of this? Not because we earned it. Not because we “did our part.”

Because He is God. True to His character at all times. He cannot change. Humans have a reference point in other humans and how they fail or how many times we ourselves fail. But God CANNOT. How amazing is that?!

And so, we can repeatedly say “thank You Lord for your unfailing love” and keep shifting our focus back to Him in all things. No matter if it’s our own failures or shortcomings or those of other people. Thank You, God, that YOU are God and I can let people be who they are and let You be God alone. Hallelujah!

Amen! I'm in awe every single day of his unfailing love towards us.

Hallelujah! And Amen! So glad we don’t have to earn His love.
